The sound is awful
Regarding whether people regularly check their own temperature: it depends where you are. Asian countries use thermometers a lot. My company (in Japan) require me to do it every day.
I honestly think that if Google did push hard into the health side of things that would be a great thing, if not just differentiating themselves even more from the competition.
