Blocking remote access Web sites is never easy. This method I should is not perfect and scammers can still use third party sites to download the software. Also, they could already have the file downloaded to another server and direct you to download a file from there, but its better than nothing and a good starting point to block remote support sites. This can be useful for people who want to add a bit of added protection and never use remote support software.

This method is not good because the domain name doesn't contain the entire list of IP addresses.

The best method is to block all the IP addresses assigned to the company you want to block. If you have a good firewall, you can also use the authentication method.

    This is called false security.
    Portableapps offers Teamviewer for example.

If you really want to block them, you block all their control ip addresses or better yet, use Snort/Suricata to ENSURE any connections with the right signature get blocked!!

Oh Brian, there are many more tech un-savvy people out there than you think. Many of them live in my neighborhood. I believe that this approach combined with a hostfile blockade would have the scammers pulling their hair out while their victims can't remember the password to the router or find the host file. Great vid!

⚠️Another vital caution from being scammed!
Remote Access or screen sharing helps connecting PC desktops with permission to make changes to the remote PC

But then blocks it on all the devices on the network you should show how to block on a single pc using the hosts file

Best solution is to buy a decent router, netgear have still not patched an exploit in its routers which allows people to get admin rights from the internet.

  21. I.T Mann

You have a very specific Netgear Nighthawk router, I am not aware that the BT Hub, or the new SmartHub 2, Virgin, or Sky routers have this kind of filtering. General ISP routers offer only offer parental controls, with basic settings ?.

how do you add the device name to your ip address once you enter your admin/psw to match ?

Just wanted to weigh in on the "rooter/rowter" thing………In America, when saying "Route 66", for example, how would you pronounce it?
A Route (pronounced "root") is a lane or pathway. Your internet Router (rooter) provides your path to the internet.
There is confusion with the other Router, (pronounced "rowter") To rout, means to remove. Hence the tools known as routers, which remove material. edit: forgot to say thanks for the video 🙂
