if you can't use a password, you can also resort to using a recovery usb, like hirens or win10xpe that don't need admin permissions

Man I wish I had found this video sooner. I literally took a laptop back to the store because I could not get our of windows s mode as I too refuse to comply.

    Keep up the great work!
I mean S mode prolly stands for like strict or something but IMO it's S*it mode.
Ms being more of BS is as usual but man they are really turning a product we own into a servicre they can charge for. and because they have 90% of the market share, It makes me very very nervous. if you are someone who watches these kind of thech contents yea sure use Linux and things are done but avarage people will suffer from that change…

I like the controversy between "Pro" and "S mode" (=simple?) cause they contradict each other.

perhaps get the government office that is in charge of anti trust issues go after microsoft twats.

That is an excellent point for the "Family Members who Click on EVERY POP UP"…… We activate S MODE ! ! ! !! ! ! !

Nice work around let's hope Microsoft will use it alone

Great tutorial. However, I'd like to point out, that most mainstream programs are now available in the Microsoft store, including but limited to, OBS, Firefox, VLC, and several adobe apps (including Photoshop).

Please reconsider your view on Microsoft.
I agree that it's wrong to force consumers to use a Microsoft account, but in terms of privacy it's not half as bad as people make it out to be.

Perhaps a video idea, is to prove the wider internet audience wrong and how Microsoft isn't taking unnecessary data (at least if you have the "required date" selected).

S Mode? I seems that Microsoft wants to be Apple with everything propitiatory.
Microsoft is giving up what created them in the first place, what mades people stay away from Apple.

Wow they are getting worse by the day! Thank you.

    Two things:

1: It's really kind and helpful to put this info out, but just as important is the attitude and ethos behind this video. The industries that control and manufacture out technology want to force the market in a certain direction; one that is not beneficial to us as consumers. The only way this is stopped is if people rebel by voting with their wallets, or finding workarounds.

If you are doing this – whoever you are – you have my thanks and no small amount of my respect.

2: I keep forgetting to ask this, but is there a reason you don't use the shortcut method for accessing Windows Recovery Environment/Advanced Start-up?
It's quicker (and easier to remember) to just hold the Left Shift key whilst selecting 'Restart'.

I know this works for Windows 10, but I still haven't tried Windows 11.

I had a customer last week calling us, because he couldn't install some 3. parts software on his brand new Lenovo Windows 11 laptop. It was not even a cheap computer, around $1000 and yet it came with Windows 11 Home S, and the salesman didn't even tell to our customer. Why the F* do a laptop with a pricetag like that still come with S-Mode!"

Comment for algo and for me to keep track.
    Also thumbs up.

wish i had this info earlier.
i had a batch of Lenovo tablets at work that came with win 10 home in S mode (i didn't know that they are in S mode) , we were gonna put win 10 ltsc version of windows on them, but i made a mistake of booting up one of them into windows that came on them. you might say no problem you are going to re-install windows any way…well…after reinstall win 10 ltsc were still in S mode, and ltsc doesn't have windows store to get out of S mode. so i had to install home version again, create burner microsoft account , get out of S mode, and then re-install win 10 ltsc for them to be out of s mode. wiser because of this experience i re-installed other tablets straight at first boot and win 10 ltsc were in normal mode

  15. Most of the windows I work on is the pro version in business settings. So I take it you can't use powershell in S mode either. Thanks for this as occasionally I get a client that buys a machine for home and they want to run openvpn to access their company network.

Thanks mate.. That save me for a friend's of mine laptop without MS account..👍

Good old Microsoft is following Apple's lead and making it's own "pre-approved" Eco-system. I hate the S-mode as MOST of my old programs did not work with it. Microsoft wants you to buy, from them, new software. Not S-Mode but I had BOUGHT Microsoft Office 2010 years ago and imagine my surprise when I found out that in Win 11 MICROSOFT disabled it. They want me to RENT THEIR programs forever. What a bunch of money grubbers they are! (BTW, I switched to LibreOffice and Thunderbird, I will NEVER rent programs from Micro$oft.)

  18. richardwernst

Can you enable S mode on a system that didn't come with it?

  19. microsoft is just a naughty company, you would think they learnt there lesson but just shows what a shady company they really are

  20. Graham Armitage

I'm surprised S Mode hasn't earned Microsoft another Anti Trust case like when they had Internet explorer on every windows install.

  21. Al Thomas

can you do a video on how to Activate s mode because I hate myself?

  22. Captain Spire

I still use Office 2000 because everything works. Every program loads instantly, saved files are small, and I don't have every single stupid feature trying to help me. do every single process. This latest mess with Pain 11 just makes me glad I have an OEM of win 10 which I am sure they will force into sunsetting early. I hope they don't try to hurt the people who try to "Fix" this new OS. But you're right, if we give in, they will just start making everything into dumb terminals

  23. Curt Yanok

You are the "man"! Thanks for showing us how to disable S mode.

  24. Al Thomas

just a thought: isn't this technique a violation of the eula? i haven't read a Microsquish eula since 10 beta but…. looks like not the turning off of s mode but the activation and use of regular windows might violate the license agreement. I do so loathe window and the ms corporate culture but a licence violation on a Youtube Video might get the attention of a Ms or Google lawyer.

  25. DiddlyDiPotatoes

Wow, that is incredibly useful to know. I'll definitely keep a note on that.

  26. Moon's Donut

Man I hope this works this s mode has been killing me I can't even use my pc properly.

  27. Owlsmol

I know Microsoft watch these videos so I'll say this here. Microsoft scum!

  28. Skeith M.

Thanks for the video. When I installed my copy I wasn't aware of all the privacy issues as much as I am now, and I want to disable my Microsoft account. Is there a way to do that?
