I finally bought a Steam Deck and this thing gets so many things right that the other’s don’t. Here’s my full review along with some comparisons to the Ayaneo 2 and OnexPlayer.

Been having my deck since august & being a Nintendo gamer for years Iโ€™ve missed out on tons of AAA exclusives so for me itโ€™s a whole different level of gaming right in the palm of your hands ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

I don't quite understand the steamOS argument. If you want one of the other windows devices to run like the steam deck just have it launch steam in big picture mode on startup. Your arguments about other launchers don't make sense since you can't run those games at all on the steam deck. The only things the steam deck has going for it are the tdp optimisations at low tdp (fixed with recent tdp tuning apps for windows), valve support and the touch pads.

my question is good buy now 2023??
and i like gaming and work too ( maybe only office, standar editing video n picture n fhoto). if 1 choice, just buy gaming laptop (max $1000) or buy steam deck…? steam deck is cheap + buy monitor portable + mouse keyboar maybe cheap than laptop $1000, i like steam deck because is handheld, can gaming anymore… plz

However steam OS 3.0 will come to windows as well soon so even aya neo and one X player or any other windows handheld will get it as well at the same time it is running windows 11 so your not locked on Steam OS only which you can download a lot like epic games, Xbox game pass, Garena and other more while on Steam deck it is running Steam OS which is Linux-based OS which is why some games in steam doesn't work on steam deck because of linux and before HDR is not supported as well which is understandable because Windows is the default for gaming. You can install windows 11 in steam deck but it is a Hassel to do so unlike other two devices that is already running windows 11 out in the box. Also steam deck has 800p while Onex player 2 has 1600p and aya neo 2 has 1200p.

Spot on fella! Never agreed with you more. Its not all about the power inside when it comes to these handheld laptop gaming consoles. Really well put on the customer service and I have now subscribed didnt even know I wasnt lol. All the best and I am now off to purchase a steam deck!

would it be weird if I wanted to use the steam deck, at home connected to my tv 95% of the time, and for travel the other 5%?

Adding emulators is so incredibly easy with EmuDeck, and you can add single emulated games (or all of them) to your Steam library for easy access through Gaming Mode. It's just so satisfying how video games from all gaming eras fit into to Steam Deck's gaming experience.

  8. Henry

The others are crap and expensive plus no support. I will stick to the DECK for support back up.

  9. MrHashi20

I never imagined been able to move like a moouse and keyboard on a handheld, granted itโ€™s not as easy to hit other buttons while doing so Iโ€™m still impressed being able to

  10. EGP

Steamdeck will become apple for universal portable gaming.

  11. Miguel Renteria

Also if you tinker a bit and install protondb plugin and it just shows you how well Linux runs those games is the best!

Just what I like… a simple, comprehensive, straight to the point video on a device. At first I wasn't going to buy the steam deck because of the ergonomics but after hearing your explanations about the software experience, the utilization as a gaming handheld of the box, customer service and price, I will give it a try. Appreciate you Matt ๐Ÿ’ฏ

The big steam deck advantage is about 10-12watts or under thats were it actually outperforms the more powerful handhelds. Ive had mine since launch and love it. The things I would change more inputs, oled 720p screen, better build quality on the case, and the two bigs ones bigger battery and use the bigger nvme ssdโ€™s. Thereโ€™s so many more option than than the smaller 2230 drives. And better cooling something on par with what aya uses ive had my deck warm me two or 3 times about the cpu getting hot and i use the faster fan profile. And we need a 6 core 12 thread cpu 4 cores and 8 threads is the bare minimum these days and 8/16 would be nice but not needed i think the 6 core would be plenty and more power efficient. I just fill like soon as I start getting into a game my battery is dead and I usually limit most games to 30 or 40.

Unless PC gaming companies start designing games for smaller screens, pass! I tried the SD twice; many games suffer from tiny fonts. Moreover, by then, more games should be natively supported on SD.

The OS falling into the background but also being capable as a basic Linux desktop is way cooler and useful than expected. There's just no stress. I was going to build my wife a new gaming PC but this thing does everything she needs without having to even think about it at a fraction of the cost. It maintains and updates automatically and a shocking amount of titles run flawlessly or close enough. It really does make Windows feel archaic when you go back due to the instant pause and sleep/wake alone. It's wild.

So much bs. In terms of ease of use the 6800u devices are trashing the steam deck. Gl playing games with an invasive anticheat on the deck. There are so many games where you have to tinker a lot with proton etc to make it work, on the 6800u EVERYTHING works out of the box.

  17. The problem – unless you already own one, you are buying a slightly outdated chip at this point with the steam deck. However, AMD has made such small improvements with its mobile chips over the past two generations that even getting the latest isn't much of an upgrade. You know what's better? Apple's A16 chip. And definitely the M2 (or M1) chip. Want great software? Apple has it. Want a ton of awesome games for a low cost – Apple Arcade has it. Either the 14 pro max or the 11" iPad Pro is so much of a better mobile gaming experience, and you get to play for more than two hours on battery. You can't play your favorite Windows games, I understand that is the major problem for a lot of people. My point is that these windows mobile gaming devices are adversely affected by the lack of powerful, yet efficient, mobile processors currently on the market. Maybe three years from now we'll get an awesome mobile gaming device where we can actually play AAA games for four hours on okay settings on battery. But that day is certainly not today. Today, gaming on an Apple device – due specifically to the powerful but efficient Apple silicon – is a better experience, period stop.

Problem with steam deck is compatibility. I can't launch MW2, Fifa, Destiny 2,The crew 2, and some other games. I can't put ps3 emulator on it barely runs. I can do that with ayaneo2 perfectly. I owned both I know what am talking bout. If valve dosent fix this issue it will always be behind other devices no matter what you guys say. There hoops and stuff you need to do with steam deck to make some games compatible. with aya neo 2 more power with beautiful screen means I can enjoy my experience as a handheld more. Its fun and I love both but ayaneo2 wins

  19. Shane G

Valve customer support is the best theyโ€™re so fast

  20. DAN C

got mine in early dec, been to two Japan trips with it so far, I installed windows to go on sd for anything that steam os can't to. But tbh, I rarely need to boot into windows as steam os is really capable.

  21. eaglemmoomin _

Worth pointing out emulation on the deck is very easy. EmuDeck is a great piece of software. EGS/GOG/Amazon games launcher can be done with Heroic. Anything else with Lutris.

The only reason to put Windows on a deck is if you have a multi player title that doesn't support the Linux versions of EAC/BattleEye and you want them on the go.

  22. Jack Feng

๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€ Not to mention, EmuDeck has made it possible for the steam deck to double as a great all in one emulator if you so wanted it

  23. Patagonia Gonia

Ok Valve, its good that steam deck is awesome but you know what would be even more awesome? Half Life 3 or just give me the damn advisor at the end of HL2 episode 2 ending in a room with a crowbar. I got a business to settle with it for many many years – more like 15 years.

  24. machsaga

With Valve, their support is also in Asia through Komodo. The Deck is available through Komodo in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, etc.

  25. BygSii

You talk about a few things that nobody else really talks about which is nice. The one thing the steam deck is missing is a last 30 second video capture

  26. Le Publican

Thank you for the well balanced review of the Steam Deck.

  27. Andrew Law

The deck is great but it's far from perfect, my reason for using the other handhelds above the deck? half my 1000 steam games don't work on Deck, this is a huge problem, my other 6800U handhelds run almost all steam games.
Storage! I can plug in any of my mass storage steam Hard drives and SSD's, on the other handhelds, It's windows, so it's recognised and instantly populated in steam, quick and easy, no using a dock, no ext4 formating, no Linux desktop which I hate.
One Type-C port really is shite, you can't have an external SSD plugged in and charging at the same time, unless you dock it, the other handhelds have way better I/O solutions, usually x2 Type-C, some with a USB 3.0 in addition.
I prefer Windows for emulation, stand alone emulators, It's so much easier to access emulators settings and adding roms in windows.
We have the option to plug in a EGPU with Thunderbolt 4, I've just got one for the win Max2/Onexplayer mini pro, I use an old Nvidia GTX 2060 super and they scream through AAA titles, mostly 60-80fps.
Adjusting TDP's on the other handhelds is getting really easy with Ayaspace and the new Onexplayer popup performance interface. 5W-28W.
The 6800U handhelds do perform 10-20% better than the deck.

The Steam Deck is still the best Value, no doubt about it but I feel the newer handhelds do offer more but at a much higher price.

as a single father of 4 with, a lot on his plate…the deck is my go to, and previous lt was my switch oled. I do have a gaming laptop, but ehhhh convenience.

  29. Mike Barnes

Such a wonderful piece of tech right? So good to hear youโ€™re enjoying it mate ๐Ÿ˜„

  30. Yu Xia

got the 64gb deck 2 month ago, best purchase in a year, popped a a2 speed sd card and I would say 90% of the game runs fine on sd card

  31. Clayton Baker
