I’m tired after watching these videos with all the yelling at the screen. And more cores don’t always translate to more performance in a single app, even rendering, because there’s a limit with coordination overhead that the software hits. Your methods are tediously not able to grasp the architectural issues involved…Try running two render apps and a game with a video export…then you’ll hit max gpa.

    Great review

Question: is the 120 watt upper limit for the gpu only, or for the total package power, i.e., cpu and gpu, as they are on same die package?
You were hitting 117 to 120 watts package power.

  3. Samtagri

17 Celsius?? What is the temperature in the room??? Because with a fan and a heat sync you should be able to go lower than the room temperature. So I call shenanigans on that app you are using.

  4. Dhruv Kumar

Can’t wait for M1 Extreme vs RTX 4090 Vs RX 7900XT

  5. Kyle M

Maybe the project needs to be larger to see better scaling when exporting on the Ultra?

  6. Did anybody already do a Windows 11 ARM Geekbench for the M1 Ultra? Interested to get the maximum core multi-core benchmark. With my M1 Max I get 8629 when I set Parallels to 8 cores (of the 10); would be great to see how much you get with the Ultra set to 18 cores (guess that should be the maximum value, maybe only 2xMax=16 cores?)… need the benchmark to check whether buying the Ultra makes sense to me for CPU-heavy tasks (e.g., chess engine analysis)

  7. SRYEV

Grats of 900k! I’ve been watching and following for a really long time now

Hey, pls tell me which mac i should buy if i have budget of 4 lakh indian rupees. And i do use logic pro and adobe photoshop and premium pro, along VST plugins for Logic Pro. For this kind of thing, where i should invest ? Anyone can pls just tell me, because a lay man won't be able to understand this all technical explanations. Please guide me with mac machine.

  9. Ashhm Ahmad

Wtf all core are running at and the program just using 2 of power full core not all the 16 core not used hint the thermal after he ran the benchmark

  10. Ashhm Ahmad

In it running with 1296 Mhz wtf they doing my laptop is 5 older and it way much higher than this crap wtf and when use final cut pro it always using media engine not actual core to render the video or playback 🤮🤮🤮 that so much money for device that can't render probably

  11. Keith Walls

I see on the web that the M1 Ultra Metal 64 GPU core result is 102,156. My 5 year old iMac Pro with an AMD 6900 eGPU is getting over 160,000. The Ultra chip is impressive, but I don't see how it will ever compete with dedicated graphics cards.

  12. Bebo

That's why kids you don't cheap out on the power supplie when building a computer especially when you are a big manufacturer like apple

  13. Dan Hopkins

Maybe someone can figure out how to overclock this CPU chip? There is so much headroom.

  14. TheRealLink

Thanks for diving into it more. Keep in mind I know you're reading averages but I am seeing some 58+C and 70+C temps there – still very impressive but still comparable to an Intel or AMD machine not overclocked on a good cooler.

The GPU and CPU throttles are indeed odd though, and really bummer when you've spent as much as you have on the system. As you said, hopefully just software not quite understanding the fused chip correctly but they should have been ready for that upon release, I do agree.

Party Tug is one of the easiest tests on Blender to run, whether Cycles or EEVEE. Please try Gooseberry, Classroom, or literally anything else.

This is still super impressive, esp. R23 don't get me wrong, but it's frustrating for sure when you (as an average customer) buy into what Apple claims and sells you and it doesn't perform as fast as expected or do quite what you want. Great indepth review!

  15. ikestrom

I think my comment about Blender not being optimized for the M1 yet keeps getting deleted, not sure why. The Cycles render engine Metal device implementation in Blender does not currently take full advantage of the M1 GPU architecture.

  16. Christian S.

Which tool is he using there that shows the CPU / GPU temperatures? Btw. Great video!

  17. Why are some of the other rendering performance tests showing about double the M1 Max speed (i.e. half the render time) ?

  18. bashful228

why no FCP 10.6.2? pretty easy to guess… bugs& performance not there yet 🙂

  19. Hopkins Films

Have you tried contacting Apple Tech Support to let them know? I just reached out to them to discuss this. They told me that once mine arrives, to send screenshots and videos showing this "issue" so they can look into it. The more people bring this to their attention, the more they'll be pressured to do something about it.

  20. Life in Cycling

1:50 My lower-tier 14" M1 Max (24 gpu cores) seems to have 3 TB busses. Interesting. (but noticing how Ultra = double M1 Max, 6 vs 3 makes sense… why an odd number though? thats… odd)

  21. → to the knee

Blender on Metal just barely came out this year. It will be awhile before it catches up…

  22. billy the kid

Don't forget to tell that it's not upgradable. People who have tried noticed that it doesn't work.
What you are calling an SSD are in reality just raw storage chips. You can't even swap them from one port to the other because one has got the controllerchips, and the other one hasn't.

  23. Dakota Thompson

Great Video! What are all of those programs you are using to see all that info?

  24. windmaomao

Sorry, can u just summarize with one line, what is wrong with the M1 Ultra Mac Studio?

  25. Michael Gunawan

Hi Max. Would the 64gb RAM Ultra be sufficient for 4k video editing? Or should I wait for the 128gb RAM in June?

  26. RenchesAndSords

"why is the GPU not performing as advertised?"

    Apple: you're holding it wrong

  27. numberIII5243

so… verdict here: if you choose to buy the higher end chip in two apple chip configs, buy the binned chip (24 core M1 max in macbook line, 48 core m1 ultra on the mac studio line, and if named as is, the 96 core m1 extreme on the to-be apple silicon mac pro.

  28. Marek Kedzierski

If Geekbench us not utilizing full GPU then there is something wrong with OS drivers, Metal API or hardware. Geekbench just executes API calls, it is up to OS, Metal and hardware to process them at peak efficiency.

  29. jimmy vandoran

They’re golfing it back so they can release a future model for 2000 more. For .2 mhz

  30. narratot Gaming

The read and write speed of the SSD is just not anywhere near the charged price. I would expect to have a read and write of at least 7000MB/s for that price tag.

  31. Justin Gladden

Some of these videos are clickbait, but this one is EXACTLY what we need in terms of a review.

  32. Mtaalas

You have no idea how technology works…
"Non soldered so there might be extra delay there…"

  33. Motti Shneor

This video is a load of dung, as it completely relies on measuring software that measures wrong values. All the talk around is null.

  34. Avishek Roy

Apple is limiting the performance so that they can sell the same chip with another 20% more performance and charge for twice of this one. CRAZZYYY….

  35. Frankii Elliott

If you notice apple is holding out on total CPU power, at what theoretical speed/performance do you think the Mac “could” run at??

With the missing IMac Pro, mini Mac Pro and others in the horizon, can you speculate on what you think could be coming/reached, ( without a package/redesign )

  36. Andrej

A very strange example of overoptimization
