If apple has sold 1000 of those monitor stands… that’s a million dollars……… I feel sorry for humanity.

I honestly cannot believe the price per performance on the new Mac Minis! I convinced my company to buy one for iOS/Android development using Flutter and I'm so excited to try it! It's been a while since Apple got me this excited for any of their products.

Excellent review!. I am a graphic designer and I am planning to make the leap to mac with this Mac Mini M2 but I am interested in the 24 gb RAM version with 256 SSD ($999).
I work with Affinity Designer and for video I use Davinci Resolve (not so demanding edition). Do you consider good idea the 24 GB of ram and for storage opt for an external SSD of 2 TB?

I spec my Mac mini m2 pro with a 12core-CPU and 19core-GPU, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and 10gbe ended up with £2399 in the UK 😂
Makes no sense. Probably will have to go with a PC.
For this price, we can build a monster with i9 13900k, 64GB ddr5 RAM, and 2TB SSD.
Also, I expected more from M2pro
    Cinebench r23 multi-core is only 12000 compared to 40000 on intel i9 13900k.
Of course, Mac mini is way smaller and power efficient even to itx build like Cooler master NR200P MAX case on the PC side. But the i9 24-core CPU is a monster

Tech Influencers: "This is a cheap product that's fantastic value for the money."
Apple: "Let's double the price next year."

  6. Kevin Cole

I would imagine that pricing is attractive schools w/computer labs. Good for apple for getting kids comfortable with the MacOS

8gb ram on a desktop is insult in 2023. That's what base flagship phones get nowadays. Apple obviously knows nobody gonna buy that and they will end up paying for overpriced ram and storage, hence the price point. A usable computer needs 512gb storage and at least 16 gb ram in this day and age, which runs you to 1000 dollars, which is no bargain but aight. You can build an Intel or amd system cheaper than that.

  8. Sonorous

If you're thinking of upgrading your base M1 mini to the base M2 mini – don't.

  9. Erik Westre

The cheapest one isn’t a real option for anyone. Don’t buy it. Better to get a refurbished M1 Mini, with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB Storage(Two nand chips). It will be much more capable, regardless of the older chip.

Just apple luring new user into their ecosystem. Someone would buy that 1000$ stand in the future.

  11. Edson Oliveira

does the regular m2 do 4k 120hz through hdmi? or is it exclusive to the pro

  12. Thanks for contextualizing the I/O performance. Actual workflow examples are more meaningful than someone yelling at the camera and booing a two minute transfer of 46GB. I suspected that someone has to be getting into seriously higher degrees of video production to find that performance an impediment.

  13. 1:50 i've re-did the PC build with 8gb ram and 250gb crucial p2 nvme, and the total is $617. and the base model updates are TIMES cheaper for PC.

  14. D-One

Thanks you for including Audio in your benchmarks!!

  15. Bose

What the FUCK kind of world are we living in that Apple thinks 256Gb of storage is sufficient? Fuck that company. I'll stick with my custom, homemade PC and my Series X. OMG Fuck Apple….

  16. Korosi Fam

Legit q, is there even a Windows machine that’s similar to the Mac Mini in terms of performance, price and form factor?

  17. afarce

I don't understand how a lot of reviewers know that companies do price ladders, where the base system has a great price but the specs are trash. Except when Apple does it, everyone pretends Apple is different.

  18. YouTube ST

Every single YouTuber who’s like telling this SSD so slow, just needs to stop and watch Dave’s video! Mac mini just for students or regular people who just wants to do their excel sheet and web browsing!

  19. rocheuro

as you said.. IF you REALLY need and you do work with VERY large files and longer renders… go for 16GB 256ssd, instead of the opposite. (8GB and 512 ssd) as more ram makes MUCH more difference in M2 base mini than larger (and faster) 512 SSD. many test and reviews on the internet to confirm that.

  20. Mark Sloan

It kills me how much the price RAM and SSD upgrades. These could be so amazing if the prices were more reasonable… of course they will sell a ton anyway.

  21. Johnnie Jones

Yup got my apple juice 🧃 🧑🏾‍💻 yup delicious!!!

  22. MegaSmiley

The base model seems like the perfect computer to use as a dedicated music production machine

  23. Sriram Sundar

The Mac mini started off with $500 in 2005. The base model always started with that price even after so many releases till 2018, when Apple updated the Mac mini, the base model was priced at $800. So years later the Mac mini may start at $1000.

  24. rocheuro

I really wish someone could test and benchmark the scenario where the system is installed and run from External SSD on 40Gbit tb4 – something like 2800MB speeds ssd – how does it compare and if it actually makes M2 8gb/256 much much faster ?

Always comprehensive yet concise, really appreciate the high quality reviews that don't eat up my time.
