Pixel 7 & 7 Pro review: small, but essential updates

Google’s marketing the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro as the scary-helpful, super smart devices that will make your life easier. While this new generation does learn some new tricks, the real treat is that they’re just a little better than the 6 and 6 Pro — and that makes a big difference.

You have $600. Do you buy A) Steam Deck, B) Pixel 7, or C) iPad (256GB)?

The verge has so many weirdos now

Was excited to get my 7 pro but will be sending it back. I really didn't get on with it. It's also nearly impossible to hold without using a case as it's like holding a bar of soap.

Nothing is scarier than Bad HDR (Sorry Apple)… Did you hear that? 🤣🤣🤣

Boring review. Every reviewers just focuses on the same things. No difference from any other review.

I love the refinements to the regular Pixel 7. Had Pixel 6. Traded up to 7. it's lighter, smaller, and White. Love it so far.

    It's simply Dancing Emoji 1🤣🤣🤣

You have to learn there names first. When you say Dancing Emoji its the lady that appears. The other dancing emojis have variant names.

Google should make the Pixel 8 Pro smaller

The speech to text feature is the best part. I hate how slow it is on my 14 pro. I love it on my 6 pro. I used to use it everyday. Now I'm stuck with regular typing.

for my first pixel phone its pretty refined

The battery only last 5 hrs lol

I got the regular Pixel 7. It’s amazing for the price. At $699 for 256GB it’s an insane value. I love mine

This phone makes us iPhone users interested but we are so deep into the Apple ecosystem that we tolerate the iPhone flaws. Android could have the best of everything at half the price and we still won't change. I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max as my daily but occasionally I'll bust out my Samsung S20 Ultra for a weekend. Android has a lot to offer but it can't match the iPhone performance even with 12G of RAM.

As an iPhone user. It seems this review is glowing for the basics of what makes a great phone but really holds the score back because it doesn't do enough features to her benefit. I feel the review should be on the product stand alone not how much innovation over what they did last year.

Alison, I'd be curious what current phone would get 10 stars from you?

  16. i would get a iPhone over a pixel in a heartbeat if iPhone allowed you to change the vibrancy and colors of the screen but unfortunately iPhone has never given that option I don't think they ever will. since I'm on my phone over 10 hours a day I love saturated colors on the screen. I'm still rocking my pixel 2 XL it was the first phone in the world that had and invented low light photography on a phone! I would get the new pixel but I really like the fact that iPhones have always had the best video and probably always will and iPhone also has iMovie and amazing editing video software that just works more seamless than Android video software. plus iPhone allows you to cut out the entire person from any background but again it doesn't allow you to just vibrant color on the screen

Bought the P6P at launch and no regret upgrading to the P7P. This is what the 6 should have been. Battery life is amazing. Woke up at 7 am and it's after 2 am with 25% battery left (WQHD, 120Hz, all features enabled).

Great, thorough review and I agree with most points having spent my first work week with the Pixel 7 Pro. However, like MKBHD and mrwhosetheboss, you have not mentioned the washed out colours on the display, even on 'Adaptive' mode. Compared to a colour accurate monitor it's.. disappointing. There are large threads on both Reddit and Pixel forums on this and Google has not addressed this. Return is the only route at the moment.
Also, the battery is good (can manage the day) but isn't flagship worthy in my opinion. The display does not seem to be handled efficiently by the system, which seems to cause most of the battery drain.
    Anyway, again thorough review, thanks!

They need the A15 or SD 8 gen 2 processing power & they should be the ultimate beast.

  20. I’ve had my pixel 7 almost 3 days and it’s a smooth experience. The only issue I’ve had so far was having to reset my phone because a backup restore corrupted some of my apps. The 7 feels much more premium than last years phones. First thing I noticed is how quality it feels in the hand while also being thinner and lighter. The fingerprint sensor is slightly faster when it works but still needs refinement with accuracy and speed. Face unlock would perfectly in well lit conditions but in dark environments it won’t work. The screen is great. Overall I’ve enjoyed my experience much more this year than last year with the 6.

Hey, nice job on the review. And yeah I traded in my six for the seven and it was a good deal. The seven feels like a much more thought out or I guess it's the s year It's lighter. It's easier to hold screens. Brighter the modems better The fingerprint scanner is better. It has face unlock which works about 100% of the time. I would say the only thing that I wish they would have gotten better with is the speakers. Now. They're they're okay, but I swear the speakers on my pixel 2 and Pixel 4 were better. So besides that, I'm very satisfied with the seven. It's a well thought out device
