RTX 3080 vs 7900 XTX vs RTX 4080: Don't get ripped off (RT on/off, Unreal Engine 5, 4K, 1440p)

Buying a high end GPU is complicated right now. The RTX 3080 prices are actually going up (new), but their used prices have come down quite a bit. The 4080 is available near its MSRP, but that MSRP is extremely high, and now AMD has launched the 7900 XTX at $200 less than the 4080. In this video we look at how these GPUs perform at 4K and 1440p in a variety of games including new graphically demanding “next gen” titles, including Unreal Engine 5.1 with Lumen and Nanite, along with some older games as well as RT ON/OFF. The test system specs are below, and all footage was captured on an external capture card to eliminate any recording overhead (although this can introduce screen tearing to the recordings).

used 3080s here cost around 500 new 3080s are around 1000usd here new 4080 cost around 1700$ here…

  2. I wanted a RT 7900 XTX however here in the UK I brought 4080 for £1099 and all RT 7900 XTX started at £1199!!! (at that time of buying) and the stock for the RT 7900 xtx have been quite non-existent not even sure if the UK got any stock on the release day.
Also note the 3080 is about £200 cheaper, the 3080 TI is only a little bit cheaper (£50 however a few are the same price) and the 3090 TI is more expensive !!!

Its impossible to buy a 6800xt or a 3080 here in Greece even after the supposedly stabilized gpu market. They both cost 900-1k. Just fffs. I will stick to my 6700xt untill the 5000 series come out. North Americans are lucky to have the opportunity to buy gpus at a more decent pricing.

So do u think 3080 10gb worth at this time ? Cuz I found one for 690$ new or should I buy the 4080 (I don’t have the money rn but I can work extra shifts) like I don’t know if it’s worth the extra performance or not cuz it’s my first build and I want to have a good experience. And I still didn’t finish my build I only have the motherboard and the the cpu i7 13gen. So what do you think?

  5. khaled elmor

    so in the callisto protocol 7900xtx is 20% < 4080 but with RT 7900xtx is 5% <4080 !!! HOW

My 2016 computer died 4 months ago (i7-6700, 980ti, 16gb ddr4 2000mhz or so). I typically keep my computers without upgrading/swapping parts for 5-6 years. I just recently pulled the trigger on a custom i7-13700k, 32gb ddr5 6000 and a 4090. I compared the price from when the 3090 launched to the 4090 and it’s a $100 difference. I read the 4090s can run hot so opted to not get the 13900k. If the 4080 was about $800, I would’ve gone with that but at $1200 before tax, it’s too close in price to the 4090 and the difference in power is pretty large. I plan to game at 4k 120hz ultra everything

id bet the cod results have more to do with the fact that cod is a console game and is optimized to run well on said consoles. What are the consoles powered by? AMD it makes sense when you think about it in that sense.

Daniel pixel counts, in reality you will not notice half the things Daniel gripes about. Games are not still pictures!🤣

Success is not built on success. It's built on failure, It's built on fraustration. it's built on fear that you have to overcome. I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life

Congratulations on 100k subscribers! You deserve it.

  11. LaOm33

Still prefer 4080 cuz of lower energy and Temps

  12. mew rhyth

Thank you Daniel for the awesome in depth review. You did explore the different graphic settings of the games you tested, which most reviewers don't do, that makes it really helpful for making a decision on which card to get in my opinion. I really like these detailed reviews keep up the good work.

  13. packetcreeper

In just a few weeks Jensen will announce the 4070 Ti priced at $899. Of course that price doesn't make sense but it may drive gamers to buy the 7900 XT (crushes the 4070 Ti) or the 7900 XTX. All of us are losing when it comes to the outrageous costs associated with mid to top tier cards. Is this the new norm?

  14. PA- PYRO

I really don't think 4k is necessary for gaming even for single player games that I personally play but ill add also that my pc is definitely not that great but 1440 is an awesome resolution

Congratulations for 100.000 subscribers. You will hav more than 250.000 in less than a year!

I think the mistake here was using a 7700x CPU, a 13700k or better yet 13900k would have been a much better choice to eliminate a CPU bottleneck. The AMDip is real, unfortunately.

  19. Zero_MP

and then lets not forget how much better the 4080 performs thermally

  20. L77kim77l

100k milestone, congrats more than deserved!! You stay as you are, right? 🤠

  21. Wancer

    congratulations on 100k well deserved

  22. Winni

    💯K!!! you made it💥💥💥

  23. super boss

Lol Callisto protocol loses being a amd sponsored title 🤣

  24. Rat Bot

Nvidia and Amd are not stupid, 4080 and 7900 prices are not a mistake. If 3080s and 3090s are priced at 800, 900, or more than 1000 dollars, then a 4080 might as well be 1200 and above.

  25. RO IHU

40-series didn't do it either. Speed will be high until we reach steady high frame rates with 4K resolution and ray tracing on. I don't know if 50-series will be the one which slows down GPU upgrade speed or do we need 60-series? I don't think 8K is a thing we are racing towards, so when we reach good 4K results, GPU improvement will slow down for a while unless there are other new technologies, which needs more raw power.

  26. B34k

All this video is telling me is that if I want high refresh next gen experiences like unreal 5.1 and Cyberpunk, the 4090 is my only option.

  27. Jay S

Please don't forget about us ULTRAWIDE gamers. It was one of the major aspects of benchmarking that drew me into your videos 🥲 (as well as your love for math/unbiased reviews).
