Sony’s new $2,200 camera vs. an iPhone 14 Pro

The new Sony ZV-E1 is a compact mirrorless full-frame camera that’s dedicated to content creators and aimed squarely at vloggers. It’s the new flagship offering of Sony’s established ZV line of vlog-centric cameras, taking a similar 12-megapixel backside-illuminated full-frame sensor as the pro-focused FX3 and mixing in the A7R V’s AI autofocus smarts to reduce the friction in making high-quality video content. So how does it compare to one of the most popular everyday cameras in America: the iPhone 14 Pro? #Sony #Technology #Vlog

Who won for you.. ZV-E1 or iPhone 14 Pro?

The Verge is so lucky to have Becca! Nilay better pay up or she's gonna go big time on her own channel! haha. Kidding! Or am I…

I think Sony had a great product but missed the mark once again on the pricing. If they’re targeting vloggers what’s stopping people from getting the still excellent APSC ZV-E10 which cost a 1/4 of the this. For those who really care about full frame Photo/Video are better off just buying the A7iv or even cheaper LUMIX S5 (or S5ii). Sony make some really confusing choices when it comes to the camera lines. There’s no fan on this so you probably wouldn’t want to take this if you’re shooting a paid videography gig. This thing needed cost like $1.2-1.5k not $2k.

Has Sony ever made a good app? Ever? The best they can do is make it as easy as possible to just get your stuff into a third party app

Great review. Owning an A7C myself. I would say thats definitely a more general purpose camera vs this one which is all video. The 12MP sensor is from the a7sIII which has better low light performance. 12 MP and dual native ISO will definitely make a huge difference in low light. Honestly i think they should not have marketed this as the ZV series. Instead they should focus on making an a7sIII- C, which this sort of is.

Wrong- Sigma FP-L is the smallest full frame mirroless camera.

  7. Alles Torte

cinevlog looks really good. but i stick to my iphone for filming and my sony 6400 for photos.

  8. andrewalamilla

I have an A7C but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to move to this once they start showing up on the used market

  9. drickzee

With all the hype on YouTube about this camera, this is the best review I've watched, and Becca did all that in 11 minutes. Brilliant!!

  10. RAWKUS Tv

Great camera but the choice of 28-60mm lens is baffling given that this camera is for vlogs and content creation.

  11. Aspiring Actor

Good point on the lack of vertical shooting. This was a big question for me. gonna stick to sony's ZV-F1

  12. Frytech

Becca about Sony ZV-E1: “It is the smallest full-frame camera you can buy right now”.
    Sigma FP/FP L: “Yeah, yeah. That’s right. F**k me”.

  13. Will Zelaya

geeze do i want a new lens or do i want this? lol

  14. Good Ole Grant

@0:21 If I’m not mistaken the Sigma FP is still the smallest full frame sensor camera available on the market today.

I've become so impressed with Sony's cameras. The AI processing and true reproduction is much better than any smart phone. The iphone's image looks really fake. Like Final Cut X, Apple shows that they really don't understand film making. Now if Sony included 32 bit float audio in it's recording then we'd really have a all in one film camera. Great review. You get it about film making.

  16. Ross Ochs

I knew this video would be the one to watch, Becca always comes through

  17. CWV

but as usual sony stabilization sucks vs the iPhone

  18. TK

8:58 Image Edge is the same horror story for my alpha7 iii.

I don’t understand why Sony can’t get their apps right.

I am so glad you´ve mentioned the A7C!!! It is an spectactular camera, despite not having 10 bit 4:2:2 color and S-Cinetone profile. I´ve loved every second using it (I´ve then graduated to an A7IV but the 7C remains in my heart).

  20. It's the smallest IBIS Full Frame, but not the smallest Full Frame, the Sigma FP is far smaller…

  21. BerlinBK

Does it have a manual mode? Or is everything on auto??

  22. Ushtonian

excuse me, did you mention the apps of gopro and INSTA360? THEY ARE BOTH TERRIBLE (ESPECIALLY THE INSTA360 IS UNUSABLE)

  23. Alan

    great review! love it

  24. Blackfyre

Watching this on an OLED TV, I really appreciate the quality of this video itself, and of the Sony ZV-E1

  25. Mark

Don't tripods tilt side to side so that you can shoot in portrait/vertical mode?

  26. What is the benefit of camera removing noise from audio track at 5:10? You loose information and then in post you cant do anything about it.

  27. TM

Needs a longer and smaller zoom lens to convert this into a camcorder!

  28. TM

If camera's auto mode could be as easy and as smart as smart phone camera app. I'm liking it. Will definitely get more ppl to step into it with the benefits of bigger sensors and ease of use from smart phone

  29. I would stack the Nikon Z30 against this 2200 camera all day long. 800, vs 2200. Add the Viltrox 13mm 1.4 f for 400 and bam!!!

  30. Superman

Thanks but my iphone can do all of these as well. Anything Iphone can't do so will go out and buy one .
