they probably made this to attract minimalist setup enthusiasts cause its small and can still act as ur main pc so u can bring it anywhere without carrying much but can still work as good as a laptop and this is probably the future of gaming pcs…..

why you ask!…so i can take a shit and play zelda botw on emu…that's why dave.

    Why are they doing this?

    Here is the answer:

    -Extending Market.

-Challenge competitors (AKA ripping up monopolies).

-Securing New and or existing users.

-Further improving and cementing their values and image (which we can all agree is basically the "Good Guys" in the industrys).

It wouldn't even surprise me if Valve would make a Phone in the future. And give Apple a run for their money hungry mouth.

Yup, agreed, gonna sell out like hotcakes I'm thinking. Like you said it's a means to an end, it's the software. If you have one of these in your hands you'll be dropping titles from their store in your gaming library. This just makes it easier. Over the years I have collected all the consoles and handhelds, this one is really going to be fun putting it through it's paces from what I've seen. I guess I'm a sucker, I put down my coin on day one, so now it's the waiting…

The problem I have with the steam deck is not the hardware (which only enthusiasts care about). It's that people forget to sell I gaming system you can't rely on hardware because what sells a system is software yes pc gaming on the go will be cool for the first couple months but eventually most normies/casuals will put it down when the new toy feeling wears off and it won't be picked up again. If valve wants this to be a success they need to make software to sell this. Remember no one buys a switch for the specs they tolerate them to play Nintendo games.

Why? Because they'll profit from Steam Store. It's been years since I have spent money on steam because my pc sucks and I don't play that much to invest in a new pc just to game. This is just perfect for me, the casual player who wants something portable and decent at a reasonable price. I buy the steam deck at a low cost but spend money buying the Steam Store games.
Similar to why they made TF2 or Dota 2 free to play, people spend more money on the store than on the game itself.

hoping they add macros to the buttons for the mmos and how they going to get drivers for g13 and how to install that most games require more buttons than whats there i have 25 buttons on the logitech g13 and its awsome for gaming so not suporting of these are going to be a big down side to it hoping valve fixes this and i dont end up with another paper weight

i think it's possible that they will make some kind of subscription like Xbox gamepass, that can be an answer why they selling device like that.

"Who are they pulling, why do they need this portable console thing?"
Well, I'm interested in the Steam Deck for several reasons:

    1) My main and only laptop is a Mac which I was forced into getting because of the industry I'm in (music), but I miss being able to play osu. I know I can use wineskin but even as someone who is fairly competent with tech, installs, using the command line & stuff like that, I can't figure out how to make it work. I don't know if osu can be played on Linux but I think so? (osu!lazer at least) and I reckon making it work on Linux will be easier than trying to make it work on MacOS.

    2) There was a ridiculous deal on Sims 4 + Cats & Dogs for under £10, but it was only available via Steam and for Windows only. I bought it anyway in case I never saw that kind of deal again and thought "it's cheap enough, I'll figure it out later". I've since read that Windows games can be played on Linux via Steam Play. I used to dual boot Windows and MacOS but I have an M1 Silicon model now so I can't do that any more (without making a purchase).

    3) I wanted a Nintendo switch but when I heard about the issues people were having with the joy-cons, I thought I'd better not risk it, and the games are just way too expensive. I do wish the Steam Deck had the kind of motion control that the Wii and the Switch has, but oh well. Maybe we'll get (third-party) motion controllers in the future. The fact that the Deck can be docked (unlike the Switch Lite) is a big plus & kind of makes up for the lack of motion controllers. Also, like many others, I was disappointed by the OLED Switch.

    4) I generally dislike being trapped into one thing or another, it's why I have an Android phone. The Steam Deck offers a freedom that the Switch and other consoles don't.

    5) I have an Xbox but being confined to the living room TV does not work for me because my mum is always in there. I have OneCast but I still have to turn on the Xbox to get it going, and even then I have to stay in the same room as the Xbox.

    6) I had considered getting a Windows PC but I'd probably only use it for gaming since I already have a laptop, and I don't game enough to justify the purchase. Granted, I could probably get a gaming laptop for a price similar to that of the Steam Deck, but the Deck has that portability factor and gaming controls, and on a laptop I'd probably end up getting distracted and spend more time browsing the web than gaming, the fact that the Steam Deck is a dedicated device appeals to me.

I'm not actually much of a "gamer", but I reckon the Steam Deck could make me one.

This is gonna have very low margins for steam, so the question is, why would they bother with this? Counting on making the money back from steam downloads looks kinda a risky bet to me as the user can do whatever they want with their unit, including buying games from other storefronts like Epic and origin.

  14. Just-in Time

I think the 64 gigs is gonna be mostly filled up by the OS so people that got that unit will probably store most on the SD . . .

  15. In know this is an old video, but is very relevant now with the STEAM DECK around the corner. Men, this is awesome, i was hoping for a device like this for ever … The Nintendo switch doesn't do it for me, this is finally what i been waiting 💪👍👌.

  16. Well Well

Man I wanna buy this just to emulate switch games, and play other pc games whenever I feel like.
