  1. Dang, you seem to be able to read my mind! Too bad the Pro is unusable due to the battery and the Laptop due to the lack of WWAN. They really could be nice products if M$ gave a hoot.

  2. I originally thought I would go for a convertible, but rationally decided that I really wanted an ordinary laptop. So that's what I got. It's not a touch screen, and I think they're more scratch resistant being glass, so I may have lost out there. I have decided to install a screen protector

No fan noise: Surface pro 7+ wins.
Anyway it's not consumer avalaible, so really difficult to find, at least in my country (and bit expensive cause no discount)

The convertible market has sort of come to a dead-end especially in the consumer market. The shiny new thing replaced by common sense as to the compromises of that form factor. They have a place in Enterprise and business as they are running Windows but in 2021 the Surface Pro is a sub-par tablet and not a great laptop. It is no surprise that MS has come to realise that they should concentrate on what works well, and the Surface Laptop was the way to go and just ignoring a new consumer SP8 was good business?

TBH I would not have either of these on my shortlist. As a Windows tablet, I would go for a 2-in-1 like the HP Spectre 360 and if I was after a laptop I certainly would not be buying the SL4 with last year's Ryzen 5/7 and it also power-throttles on battery.

Intel said, 11th Gen Intel Core Tiger Lake-U outperform Ryzen 4000 U

But, AMD Conquer it with new Ryzen 5000 U at CES back in January 2021

Spectacular Review on two of the newest Microsoft devices. I learned a lot, but love the LTE in the Plus. Looking forward to the next reviews ๐Ÿ‘Œ

    Hi..
    Your doing great….

Hope they fixed the bulging battery problem, but most likely not.

I had been deciding to replace my Lenovo 720S and I'm planning to buy it at possibly the end of the year. I had already got the Baseline Surface Go (the original version) as my secondary laptop.

  11. Picked up the Laptop 4 in Zimbabwe. Had it a few days. Amazing device. I have had a Pro 3 and 6 previously but the laptop 4 is more practical. Plus boy that battery life is to die for

nice review… I still have this question since I like to sketch and use a lot of graphical tools the pro 7 makes sense? Does the laptop support easy use of the pen?

  13. Gavin McCloy

nowhere near the performance of an M1 mac :/ I do not want to switch to mac but that M1 is making it very difficult to ignore compared to what MS are doing at the moment. ๐Ÿ™

Glad you mentioned light gaming! Grabbed one on sale, its not my main rig but might occasionally play Valheim or The Forest 2 when it lands from the laptop.

Replacing my chromebook I've had since 2016 and looking forward to it!

I need to use for Autocad ( quite big files )
Which one should i go for?

  16. Thanks for this great comparison! This is quite literally the exact two devices I have been considering between… I have the Surface Pro 7 right now, but in the lower power i3 version. The battery life is dying quick as I've been using this device every day. I love the ports selection on the 7+ (it keeps me from going up to the 8 in fact) and the overall versatility. But I know I would love the larger screen on the Laptop 4 and am personally a big fan of AMD processors for their increased battery life. One observation — the Webcam on the 7+ seems to still be better than the webcam on the Laptop 4… Did you notice that as well in your testing? Cheers!
