Wanted: Dead Review – The Final Verdict

This is what makes Wanted: Dead stand out from its contemporaries. It’s the intentional silliness and jank that hearkens back to the PS2 era, perfectly encapsulating the games that defined the childhoods of an entire generation. Those kids are all grown up now, and the way the industry is heading often looks like it will alienate us.

So, it’s fantastic to have a game that doesn’t want to squeeze every last penny out of you or try to be a 100+ hour experience. Wanted: Dead just wants to be weird and fun, and that’s exactly what it is.

If I wanna play the modern interpretation of ninja gaiden I'll play nioh or wo long. Or stranger of paradise… I don't need games like this to waste 60 bucks on

  2. Mike Alexander

I didn't think this review would be as controversial as it is.

  3. Trash. Bought it too quick, this game will be in the bargain bin in a couple ov weeks. The animations look like Wu Tang on ps2…we're on ps4 and 5 now wtf. And whats up with the aiming? I dont think Ive ever bought a game a instantly and regreted it. Ninja Gaiden has better gameplay and animations and that game is old as hell.

Why I can't buy this game in my ps store despite the release date is already days ago? It only has option "wishlist" and "follow". No price displayed also.

    Anyone??

It does have a lot of jank, but they really should have toned back on the story, cutscenes are long, boring, and near insufferable. Not helped by the horribly voice main character, if that's intentional for the throwback, it was a bad decision.

But past that, I am having a lot of fun with it, especially as I fill the skill tree. If they'd have just done minimilstic set ups between stages, it'd have all flowed a lot better.

Combat looks janky AF with that stutter after each attack. Peeking out from cover to shoot feels terrible. Nothing looks fluid at all and they want full price? Pass.

  7. Alex Weise

If they put it at the $40 price point they should have, I feel like other reviewers would have given it a better review.

controls were so bad in my opinion, it was unplayable.

Edit: control were horrible for keyboard and mouse. I switched to gamepad and it's fine.

  9. Victor Torres

Love the game hope they add a horde mode of sorts has potential with that badass combat 💜

  10. Faraday

I bought it and I like the first hour. I like video games with old school style I’m a 80 s baby of course

  11. DFeras

you're comparing this combat to ninja gaiden? this looks terrible and clunky

  12. crazykenbei

I know what this is. Back in the day in the ps2 era that were a whole bunch of rated 4-7 ish action games that experimented in various. Ironically these same games that many say are now "hidden gems" LOL. This game is an od to those set of games.

  13. David Shirley

The hilarious part is the fact that the assault riffle doesn’t do half the damage that the kitana does

  14. Michelle

Blood 🩸 need i say more too, in a game world, where this is being outlawed.

  15. NCYungin

I'm Def getting it, studio that bought me NG? Def supporting

Looks like WET. Which sucked. I miss dead to rights. Well the first two

  17. this game screams ps2 lol all over it. the combat, the cutscenes, the gameplay in general. something i'd play over the weekend and enjoy. something like WinBack on ps2/n64, and Covert-Ops on ps1. a spin-off title that's similar to a more recognised title before it. Covert-Ops to Resident Evil style gameplay. which in itself is a hidden gem. Binary Domain is another on ps3. Yeah.. this is a sale atm for me, but a definite buy for sure!

Finished the game. Honestly it's such a wasted potential, it could have been great but there are too many issues.

Damn I don't know what to think. I really want to like this game because like the reviewer said, I am so sick of 40 hour games that are just padded fetch quests. I want levels designed by artists and not algorithms that procedurally design levels of "endless" mediocre gameplay and/or roguelike games where you perform the exact same action over and over and over in the exact same level over and over and over. That stuffs OK for an RPG but they've started putting it into action games now just so they can boast of having all these hours of same ol mediocre soulless gameplay.

I've seen 2 reviews so far, IGN says the game sux and these guys say it's really good. Scared to read more because like I said, I was hoping this game would be good and right now it's a coin flip.

I see a Janky Cam like Ninja Gaiden but it looks fun

Pretty alarming how many so called "professional critics" fail to see what this game is trying to be, the homage it pays to a time where the industry made games that were about gameplay first above anything else. Not be a hybrid 80% movie, 20% game, often way too easy, and driven by backhanded agendas and microtransactions check lists. This is a great review, well done👍

  22. Saloz94

Just finished this game and I really enjoyed it and even liked the cast of characters and how weird stuff got. I actually wanted more by the end. It really feels like some people just dont get the combat resulting in really low opinions.

  23. Stanislav Kimov

We miss game like these so much now. Not trying to be serious and dramatic to a point of cringe, like modern Sony exclusives. Something ironic and witty, that understand where it stands, feels much smarter and deeper to me.

  24. ldariusd21

The few problems I have is that you have to shoot your gun in order to do more sword combos. Triangle should be a heavy attack or another sword attack to mix up the combos. The games addictive to play tho it reminds me of a ps3 game

  25. Troll Slayer

I'm currently playing it and everything he said is true lol 😄

  26. orpheusx

Interesting take. Might give it try after a deep discount. BTW: the dev's name "Soleil" is the French word for "sun" and it's pronounced "So-lay."

  27. Blakshadows

I'm actually enjoying the damn game.🤷🏾‍♂️

  28. Lord Metroid

I will probably pick this up, when is like $10 bucks, I see some Killl Bill vibes, from this game.

  29. Solomon Grundy

…looks pretty good… I always felt like team ninja could make a decent Highlander game

  30. CallistoXXII

It’s an okay game. They need to fix the frame rate issue
