15 Big Ways Video Game Graphics WILL NEVER BE THE SAME

The last couple of years have been amongst the most technologically disruptive on record, with leaps in artificial intelligence and procedural generation providing an ever-expanding toolset for game developers to enhance the fidelity and lifelikeness of their video games.

There are, of course, concerns that emergent tech might have drastic implications in some areas but as things stand right now there’s no replacement for the personal touch.

After all, much of the technological leaps featured in this rundown aim to streamline the game creation process; a smoother game development cycle will allow studios to finetune their experiences, resulting in more immersive gameplay in addition to enhancements in graphics, environments, and lighting.

Good graphics are great and all, but if the gameplay and story aren’t good then it’s not going to sell well.

  2. then there are a few ecceptions like Mirrors edge, bioshock, Batman Arkham Knight or witcher 3 wich are just perfect.

This really makes me excited thinking of what Rage Engine 9 can do with GTA 6

  4. @darrantak

Can't wait to be firing weapons with all this new tech.. Sarcasm

  5. @goofed86

Unless you are Bethesda who are still churning out the same graphics as their Xbox 360 games

  6. @Delsin42

I would rather fully destructible environments than "raytracing and 200fps"

Can't wait to see how beautiful Death Stranding 2 will end up being. 😌 Kojima is doing some futuristic brand new sh*t w/lighting techniques, etc I guess… and I can't wait to see the finished product! Already, just from the teaser trailer, I could tell the graphics have improved phenomenally, from the 1st game. And the 1st game is STILL gorgeous, don't get me wrong. But DS2 aims to be on a whole other level…

I want Hulk Ultimate Destruction look better than the Matrix Demo

  9. @dctrbrass

I'll believe it when I see it. All we have this gen is last gen graphics in 4k.

honestly only ones I'm excited for are the frame regeneration, metahuman and chaos physics. Graphics don't mean shit if your game isn't fun or doesn't run properly.

  11. I am fine with pre baked light and shadows. I would rather have better physics, A.I and fram rate. I don't want games to have a homogenised look.

  12. If you guys actually want to see this new fancy tech and all this cool sht, you losers really need to accept $80+ games. Look at how far we come, devs need to profit and at $60, your seeing all the broken half finished problems that come with that, give them money to make the games you expect to get

ray reconstruction is pretty neat. it improves the visuals and performance at the same time

  14. "Next – Gen" graphics are based on forced vaseline techniques, built on worst scam-directX ever and generally is AI designed to spy or bring the worst gaming experience for maximum profit each year.
Just compare "RDR2", "RE4 Remake", "the last of us part 1" with "Alan Wake 2" and ask yourself :

    – How BIG is the visual difference in terms of photorealism ?
    – Couldn't the samesimilar level of visuals and performance be achieved using other game engine ?
    – Why so many AAA titles comes out unoptimized on release day ?
    – Why console titles are getting "remastered" before being ported to PC and then flops out broken and unoptimized ?
    – Why Do we need RTX hardware if we can achieve RTX with software ?

The 90s incorporated real video footage of the characters in game like Wing Commander 3. That is still better than some of the awful and bland character models we see today
