15 Graphically Extraordinary Unreal Engine 5 Demos That Will Make Your Jaw Drop

Unreal Engine 5 has finally been released, and whilst professional and amateur developers move beyond early builds of the 3D creation tool, to get to grips with its full version, we thought we’d take another look at the tech demos out there.

As before, the unparalleled realism, immersive lighting, and photo-realistic texture effects have us spellbound. It’s hard not to get too swept away by some of these demos, as it remains to be seen how the intricate environments demonstrated here will be incorporated into video games that’ll run smoothly at high framerates.

I love how photo realism can further submerge you into the game/video, and I can’t wait until more psychological/horror survival games can incorporate this in the right way. That being said looks are definitely not everything. Games like Layers of Fear (though some call it a walking simulator, and I get and accept that) and Visage were some of my favorite games in the past 5 years, but it was the story, the lore, and the characters that in the end sold them for me. I am currently captivated by the expansive Lore of Elden Ring and I think these games would still be able to hold their own even looking slightly worse. For instance, I can still turn on games like Castlevania SoTN and be sucked in from the story, detail and excellent Game Play. Then “Castlevania 64” came out, what, 3 years later? and though I’m a huge fan of the series, it’s difficult to immerse myself in its story due to the bad game play, lacking story, and blocky graphics. People were so keen on getting everything into 3d though, so much even Sony didn’t want to publish some absolutely awesome 2d games because of everyone’s huge interest in 3d. My main point is graphics, photo realism are only as good or as important as what it’s presenting. Now, creating something where the visuals ARE the experience, especially in VR, there is a place for that, but it’s more of a singular experience than a full game. These demos or videos all look stunning, but they can’t be all of what the experience is in a game.

At the moment unreal engine demos like the matrix don't work for me comes out at a strange resolution 1456 x 790 or if I change the scaling it's 4k I have this issue with the previous engines and so do other people it never scale right if using 4k resolution so it sucks so far

I learned just because it’s possible doesn’t mean it will happen. Do I want it to happen? Hell yeah I do but games as of lately have been disappointing, they show you one thing and you get another.

Cant wait to play some new horror games that take immersion to the next level. Hope some good ones come out soon!

  10. 1:40 doesn't it say 20FPS on the right, with ~45 ms per frame?
3:55 It's a "more much" dynamic response? What?

Did you guys forget to edit this?

I remember being blown away by the awesome illusions of psychedelic drugs and then by photoshop when it first came out in 1990. I thought I seen it all. Now we're never gonna know if a photo's been animated or not. What's fake or real. We all know the camera doesn't lie but sometimes it gets the wrong impression. In the advancement of technology you would think hyper realism is the main quest rather than what's believable and what's not. I love it.
