8 FREE PROGRAMS That Should NEVER Be On ANY PC! 2023

In a recent video we showed you the free programs that we think are the best. Sadly, there is software that for a variety of reasons could do more harm than good. In this yearly round up, I’ll show you the free programs we believe should never be installed on any computer. I’ll explain why they shouldn’t be installed and if available show you free alternatives to those programs.

  1. My personal opinion: I know that it can be difficult to remember all of your passwords if you are (hopefully) using unique for each, but I believe it is better to save them on a plain ol' piece of paper than online or in encrypted vault. PCs and phones crash, die, get lost, or you forget the password to the fault. Systems are hacked every day and encrypted data is stolen. If you think that your information cannot be accessed, you are wrong. Anything can be cracked with time.

It should be noted that Ublock Origin is not a ad blocker, as it does more than just ad block. They don't even like it being called an adblocker and is considered a "content blocker". Which I think actually fits the bill better anyways. If you read their description it says "uBlock Origin is not an "ad blocker", it's a wide-spectrum content blocker with CPU and memory efficiency as a primary feature."

Another media player that I think works just as well as VLC is Potplayer. It looks better to my eyes than VLC however it is closed source so if you don't like that then stick with VLC.

excellent Audio, Brett!! sub/liked. ohhh…and the pretty-pictures were spot-on, too 🙂 Nice choices. It might have been an Add to it all IF some excellent Freeware Sites (yes, back from the olde-days 🙂 were Linked, too. MG., Softp. (abbreviated) are 2 a mine.

There IS a zillion super-good Freeware available, thankfully. And…I often wonder about that, as to WHY anyone would offer such excellent Computer Tools. For NUTHIN"!!!!????

I'm an old CAD-Designer (since '82), and my PC has "worked" with classic and effective freeware since my leaving C64/Timex Sinclair-days, behind 🙂 Brett, YOU know all of them, certainly. The Freeware Sites, but…how about a Rating Video about WHICH ONE(!!) is the "Best"!? Or on a Scale. It would be as Valuable on "just" 8-or so Comparison Softwares, no? For Viewer-interest, that is! 🙂 I'd like seeing.

Subbed/liked. buona fortuna! oooohhhhh….do a Comparison Review for CAD-softwares, please! I just "discovered" THE MOST AFFORDABLE CAD for my architectural planwork EVER!! From one this pro who's used several. Hint to my choice…instead of the 1000s of $$$ the "cad monster" (aka: AutoCad) charges for its freakin' "subscription fee" now, its lifetime-cost is 199$-399$ (the latter for what I reckon as nonsense, or BIM-features 🙂 Another hint…its 99.98%-similar to the cad-monster's features. No lie!

ActCAD. Who knew India would offer such a super-affordable excellent CAD? Tells ya ALOT about India's bright future. I'm in SW FL, USA.

Can recommend proton pass and proton vpn.

However I can not recommend Linux for anything but basic use. Browsing the web, office work, media streaming etc.

Linux can be such a mess especially when it comes to gaming. Linux gaming experience is so poor that not even their so called "native" steam client work properly most of the time.
If you even get it to launch at all.

  6. Mashu

seeing RealPlayer on this list reminded me of my dad downloading every Crazy Frog music video and we'd watch it on that player weekly. That was a funny time.

  7. EpicATrain

If you haven't already, can you do the best PAID programs that all computers should have and PAID programs that should never be on a PC?

  8. James Marchetti

Great Public Service Anouncement !!! I knew some of this but not all !!! Not everyone can keep up with this or do the research !!!

  9. Lamorn Malone

My media player of choice is Daum Pot Player, which is pretty much on par with VLC. At its height, Real Player was one of the most invasive applications (let alone, media player) around. Real Media application behaved more like a virus. My browser of Choice is Vivaldi (MS Edge is invasive and the only way to fully close the browser is through the task manager). Chrome at one point was a resource hog.

Thank you Thank you Thank you 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍😘✌️🦘

for a while now i've been considering setting up a new harddrive with a clean install of a Linux suite ("Mint" looks similar, looks like an easy transition), get right away from all Microsoft products & problems. i need to stop procrastinating & get on it.

    Hi Brett,
This was a very good idea for a video. Sometimes people install certan programs out of habbit and things with the developers of that program change but people may not know about it.

On a seperate note, I had no idea Real player was still alive. I disliked it back in the late nineties, so if it sucked then then what hope can there be for it now?

One final thing, I was expecting C Cleaner to be in this list but perhaps people don't install that any more. I certainly hope they don't.

    Keep up the good work.

  13. ÉIRE

    Excellent, Brett, as always.
Yes, uBlock Origin is THE only ad blocker to use.
Funnily enough, this morning, I accidentally came across some users reporting that YT has somehow blocked the use of it (and other ad blockers), but I haven't seen that happening on my YT channel…..yet.
Just out of curiosity, though, has anyone else here had that problem with their ad blocker here on YT?
Stay safe and well, everyone, wherever you are (oh, and start getting those winter socks out).

  14. Uknife Same

Password manager RoboForm.. there is no more..😉

  15. RIOTNOOB

I will say you are spot on about the programs. Thank youi for no click bait.

  16. _p4n0s_

I used to use uBlock for years but I switched to AdGuard AdBlocker (green shield with checkmark). I found out it's even more efficient and has way more block features.

  17. H R

To be honest, while the questionable things about AdBlock Plus may be well questionable, specifically companies paid to have ads unblocked, it's actually been moreful to me than hurtful to be honest. For example, Yahoo seems to be riddled with questionable advertising contracts, some of which link to sites that acta s trackers. With ADBlock installed, I don't see such ads or any way to trigger or visit the questionalbe links that some of the advertisements have (and some of them will and can trigger security software alerts — I use ESET which has a web link tracer that will identify and warn you about malicious links, even through advertisements, or tell you that a link on a page is linked to a known source of possible threads — usually just adware or trackers. So for me, it's been helpful, although a lot of sites do detect ad blockers and will not work unless you allow them. But it does keep the questionable advertisements away (blocked) as itended. Considering you can use it as a free plug-in, I don't see much of a downside here. It would be different if you were aske to pay a fee to use it I guess.

  18. Pat Stevens

I've gotta believe that someone at McAfee has naked pictures of the CEO of Adobe having sex with farm animals. No other explanation makes sense.

  19. Billy Guthrie

well may as well forget Ublock Origin because in January extension manifest V3 goes into effect an they say it will cause all adblockers to block 90% less ads!

  20. Billy Guthrie

By the way an antivirus extension worth instlaling on your browser is Malwarebytes browserguard. There are no downsides and it does a good job of blocking ads! not antivirus extensions are bad! Malwarebytes cool McAfee not cool!

  21. Not 2 busy

Good video. It might be an idea to add the text "Not Recommended" that stays throughout. You have a number of other great videos about what to get and this one almost felt like one of those.

  22. computerjantje

I took away the thumbs up because you did not recommend against upgrading to windows 11. I think you should have left the windows 10 and 11 debacle out of this list. I don't think with dry eyes someone can recommend the windows system as of windows 10. And yes I use it but only because there is no other way for me without having to spend way too many hours on learning new software .If you tell people they should not install software because of its spying or because of its doing all kinds of things on the background, then recommending windows 10 and above cannot be in the same video.

  23. Mike Bear

Lmao. Imagine saving and typing button "remember". It's the sign of stupidness and noobs.

  24. mos8541

VLC is so over rated, ima put together a list of things it DOESNT DO such as easily rotate vids, soo may more

  25. Luke Dawson

I use opera witch has adblocking and blocks tracking aswell

  26. Voice Ai has a very scummy Free Trial, that the Free Version is extremely limited and bad ratings, like they're very overpriced premiums!
