The issue with Elden Ring here is the CPU. For some reason it refuses to use all the CPU it can, so outside really new chips with higher single core speeds it's going to have inconsistent performance and constantly drop below 60 FPS and stutter.
I had a i5 9400f paired with a 3070 and I couldn't get 60 FPS all the time, that's how bad the issue is. Upgraded to a 12400f and it's now smooth as butter.

If Steam did their own steam machines now with a custom RDNA2 APU and started getting games specially optimised for the hardware, I think it would do a mile better than their last attempt.

I'm honestly considering downloading SteamOS3 on my PC.

Love these msi console form factor offerings, just wish they would offer them without the brick =(

Valve and MSI should do a collab by now ..PLZ take my moneys

Why a RX580 which has a really bad efficiency? Wouldn't a 1660 super or RTX 3050 make much more sense?

Love my little Trident. Mine came with an 11400F and a 3060 Aero. She's a little loud at all-out, but it's out of the way enough it doesn't bother me, and temps stay nice. Perfect space-saving units.

I'm thinking about building a Gaming PC with SteamOS & ChromeOS both together if I can do it if not then just SteamOS…

Some of the gold worth looking into are the small comments made early in the video.

For example, this is a $699 machine on ebay, as its originally configured. Early comments:

"It was a lot of digging to get at the SSD to replace it".

"I've replaced the 1650 it came with with an RX580", which are functionally quite similar. The 580 might be a bit quicker than the 1650, but I'm pretty sure the power usage is higher?

If I'm to follow that logic, after spending $700 on a flat 10th gen intel machine, apparently you want to put a different SSD and video card into it as well?

Valve should be subsidising a console also. Zero use for a Steam deck form factor in my case, price is the only thing with that device.

Very good, I love it when you make videos using Linux and demystifying this thing that Linux doesn't run games. Congratulations for the excellent work.

Just got this set up on an old Optiplex 3060 SFF with an i5 8400 and an RX 6400!

Only problem is some games refuse to launch. Hitman 3 and Elden Ring (both Deck verified games), either get stuck on the Steam loading splash image or freeze just after launching. Having a hard time debugging what the problem could be. The same issue happens when trying to launch from desktop mode.

If you get your hands on an MSI Trident 5, it'd make for a nice Steam Machine/emulation box.

  14. God, that poor Steam Controller is rendered into nothing but Steam brand signifier. I love that thing for FPSes.

  15. MJ7

    Very nice.
    1660ti would do it.

Hey; could you do a updated video on retroarch and the flycast core for atomswave games? Have no idea how to change the controls for things like test menu and coins. Can't really find much info on the flycast retroarch core about it either ..

  17. igor giuseppe

the design of the case looks more like a console than the current gen/previous gen consoles

I have an old Vega 64 system just sitting in the closet. I need to try this holo iso, but I have no faith in my ability to set this up

Makes me hopeful for my planned 3770k-OC + RX 580 8GB SFF bedroom build. Thank you for sharing. Definitely will be trying out SteamOS on it.
