You say people are wrong and then tell us that M2 is single core faster + high res video encoding faster too .. so, I know it doesn’t win in every way but those both topics are quite relevant.. maybe making it 50-50 better on depending on the use (and that’s disregarding battery duration)
Remember the modded M1 MacBook Air, I would like to see a similar thing done to the M1 MBP and the M1 Pro MBP to see if there is any performance upgrades there.
Apple has made their product lineup as confusing as possible to navigate. Remember this quote on their philosophy , “we only want to make one phone, that is the best phone in the world”? Now they’ve reached Microsoft levels of confusing, like Windows 7 Home Office Pro, Family Edition Plus®

So M1 Pro will be faster for Capture One and Photoshop Raw editing but the M2 will be faster for Davinci Resolve Studio for video editing?

Nice job extrapolating that data. That makes a ton of sense. I kinda figured this is what it would look like. And since we are likely at least until 2023 before we likely see a MBP/MBPM refresh it’s all fine and dandy. Bigger, better screen, pro motion, better speakers and sound, better performance where it counts for 4K editing. 8k is something we can all worry about as prosumers and web media consumers down the line, at this point many people in tech advantaged places are just starting to get 4K capable devices. So I think we are likely more than fine for the long haul with our m1pro/max devices! Good stuff! 👍🏽 great job reading your subs and delivering as you always do!

As someone who has a M1pro 32 Gb Ram since November, it’s concerning that video editing could be better in a M2 air. Im a graphic designer and don’t do video, so I’m confident my M1Pro will clearly be better than the M2, for what I personally do, but even if in just one area the BASE chip has already improved and over the PRO, that’s concerning. If we see groundbreaking upgrades every 6 months that’s shady on Apple’s part.. 1) because of the current economy and 2) because if you start doing significant updates every few months, you start getting into the whole LEASE CONCEPT like what has happened with phones because everyone wants to keep up with the updates every couple years!
This M2 is interim and will be going away at the end of the year when the real M2 comes out. Apple had to do it to get Metal 3 programming moving, but they really didn't want to being out M2 on the old machinery.
I call this "politricking". Apple knows for a fact that; the M1 is more than enough for the vast majority of users. If they really cared about the planet, they would improve the life span of current products – and not simply justifying bring in a new product because it is slightly faster.
I will not be surprised to find that it is same chip, with slightly updated software. We mustn't fall for this.
The big thing is the battery for me the 14 inch has good battery but when it compares to the base 16 inch or m1 air its horrible. I’m hoping that bigger battery in the new air will make a difference.
I’m gonna be studying CS at uni… should I get an m2 MBA with 16gb RAM or base model M2 MBP cuz of more CPU and GPU for potential (but light) AI/machine learning for certain classes?? (Also I wanna be able to use this for a relatively long time like minimum 4 years) cuz I ain’t rich to be able to upgrade every few years

The video is repeating the same content from your last video on the M2. Overall a good video however how many more videos are we going to see repeating the same content over and over. The comparison could wait until you actually have the hardware on hand. Next you will be comparing your estimates to the actual all for more content and revenue. Content just becomes too repetitive.
Well, sure a huge company will do these things. But, these new Macbooks are great computers. There ain't no denying it.
m2 chip looks and sounds like such a flop…. isnt it supposed to be getting better not incrementally mediocre?
So, in essence, let's compare the performance of a computer that hasn't been released yet with ones that have and present fake benchmark scores based on dubious graphs.
Wouldn't it have been better to wait until the actual release and do some REAL benchmark tests?

Hi, when you compare the gb5 metal graphic score, I think it should be based on gpu cores not cpu cores, right?
I am going from a Lenovo PC with 16GB RAM and 350 GB free of 450GB. I was told by Lenovo this computer was more than I needed when I purchased it. 4.5 years ago. I use Phototshop Elements and Premiere Elements casually. I do not code or make 4K videos. I surf the internet and do very BASIC tasks on my computer. I plan to purchas the MBA with the M2 chip when it is released. After listening to this video should I get the 8GB or RAM? Should I get the 256GB hard drive? for just doing old people stuff? thank you for any advice you are able to provide. Anyone else with advice PLEASE comment!
The base model Pro has been on sale within $50 of the similarly specced Air (512/16) which I think makes it a win for that particular model unless you favor portability over all
Most users don't care about a single external display, let alone two or more. Yet AppleTubers are all making big complaints on this. Pfffff.

I dont have the choice but buy the 14 or 16 inch version. Because I use 2-3 external monitors at home. It is impossible to be productive with only one monitor. I will not buy an extra iPad 12,9 inch only as extra monitor to the M2 Macbooks. What a pain Apple…

Yes, the Keynote files says that. But if you compare the M2 Air with the M1 Pro 14" they have the exact same specs for the Media Engine.

With this price increase, m2 MacBook Air should come SD card slot, m2 pro/max/ultra machine should come with sth better then SD card, like some Sony camera have SD / XQD card slot, after all, this type of design is truly pro design.
Hope Tim Cook papa will make this happen at m3 15 inch MacBook Air. Then I will get one.
