So, as for my reasonings, it's subjective, but in my opinion just has a sleeker UI. There are some benefits to it such as being written in Go over PHP and it has DNS Rewrite that supports wildcards. Many of the features and functionality between Pi-Hole and AdGuard are identical. If you're installing something like this for the first time, try both and find the one that works for you.

You replace Pi-hole a reliable open-source community solution with commercial software operated by a Russian company, headquartered in Moscow, that is attempting to conceal its Russian origins by using a front company in Cyprus?

  3. @DBTechYT

I switched to AdGuard Home about a year or so ago just because of the UI. I feel like the AGH interface is more modern. The Pihole interface has been stale for a while and I really like AGH a lot!

  4. @gordobot24

Thank you. Very good video. I have not used AdGuard, but i really like the interface. Very thorough and complete.

I recently switched from self-hosted DNS to using NextDNS. I was using a pi-hole for many years but it wasn't great to use on devices when out of the home for obvious reasons like latency. For a while I was using pi-hole at home and NextDNS on our phones/tablets/laptops when off our home network with the same filter lists but I realised I was just making more work for myself so I just ended up switching everything over to NextDNS. Works well and has a lot of nice features, I know there are other options out there too if you want to use an alternative. I love to self-host where I can but DNS outside of the home can be a bit of a pain to do reliably unless you host on a VPS and use a VPN on mobile devices so it isn't a publicly facing DNS server (which you don't want!) but then always on VPN for just DNS impacts battery life so it's not ideal. I found a third party DNS service with the same kind of options for blocking as pi-hole (or adguard) is a good compromise for my needs. Also different profiles for me, my wife and my kid is handy as my wife doesn't want things like instagram blocked whereas I do 😁

i mean i know adguard, i know proxmox and lxc's but the shellscript idea is brilliant 😀

  7. @TazzSmk

good to know the alternative is good, but I don't feel like ditching Pi-Hole with Unbound just yet xD

  8. @jay-cm

I still think using an extension is better because it's way easier and you get cosmetic filtering, something you don't with a dns solution.

  9. @jeffkili8918

Should you be blocking the Ads? Shouldn't you be DOWNLOADING the Ads but sending them to dev/null.

Isn't this how they know you're using an ad-blocker? They see you're not downloading them.

  10. @Marcasecas

If you don’t wanna see any ad in youtube,, connect your vpn to a server in Albania.

  11. @PPPH1L1PPP

No, you dont block ALL the ads. And also no, it does not filter IP´s.

  12. @VitaliiPustovyi

So, is it any better than Pi-Hole? Was kinda hoping to hear the reasons behind the switch.

  13. @postnick

I keep trying Adguard but keep going back to Pihole – I'm just not sure how much I can trust a for profit company blocking my ads.

  14. @matthewbass8152

  16. @snackyytv
