It looks like the latest game that PlayStation has released on PC platforms has been a dud. For the most part, 2022 has been a very strong year for PlayStation when it comes to PC releases. The publisher got off to a strong start when it brought God of War to PC in January and only proved to reach an even larger audience with the arrival of Marvel’s Spider-Man at the end of the summer. And while PlayStation could still have a strong close to 2022 with the upcoming launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PC later this month, it looks like the company’s latest release has been less-than-stellar.
At the end of this past week, PlayStation finally released Sackboy: A Big Adventure on PC for Steam and Epic Games Store platforms. Originally, the latest platformer starring the titular Sackboy was released on PS5 and PS4 back when the former console launched in late 2020. And while the game itself has largely been well-received by fans and critics, it doesn’t seem to have found much of an audience on PC so far.

If it’s not independent retailers breaking the release date of God of War Ragnarok, it’s Sony itself! @RasheedaASmith on Twitter has posted in response to a Wario64 tweet that they received the God of War Ragnarok PS5 console bundle from Sony (via a PlayStation Direct order) instead of one containing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The user shared a picture of the outer box, proving they do indeed have the official bundle in their hands.
This isn’t a special edition version of the PS5 console or anything; it’s literally just a standard system with a code for God of War Ragnarok inside. Since it’s a code for a digital PS5 version, we presume it’ll translate into a pre-order for the game off the PS Store if it’s redeemed before release day on 9th November 2022. No leaks should come out of this slip-up, phew.
PS5 Fails and Wins:
On its face, the recent Q2 report about Sony’s PlayStation division is…not great. PS5 sales are flat at 3.3 million from last year, indicating continued supply problems. Software sales are down 18%, reflecting a relatively light year for releases (at least pre-God of War and Modern Warfare 2).
But what may be the most concerning figures are the PSN/PS Plus numbers. PSN active users are down 2% to 102 million, and PS Plus subscribers are down 4% to 45.4 million, down from 47.3 million.
That’s not good. And it’s especially not good when even in a challenging year, a “miss” by rival Microsoft for its Xbox Game Pass growth is “only” an increase of 28% instead of the 73% they wanted to see.
PS5 25 Million:
In its latest earnings drop, Sony said it sold 3.3 million PlayStation 5s this quarter, matching exactly what it did last year and bringing total units sold since launch to 25 million. Its numbers this quarter are far short of what it needs to hit the 18 million PS5 sales target for fiscal year 2022, though. Sales halfway through the fiscal year (ending March 31st) are now at 5.7 million, which is also nearly the same as 2021 at this point (5.6 million).
Despite the equal number of PS5s sold, revenue was up significantly over last year (12 percent) to 727 billion yen ($4.92 billion), thanks in part to a PS5 price increase earlier this year. However, profit was down by 49 percent due to the company’s recent acquisition of Bungie, along with game developer cost increases.

PSVR2 has much better specs then the Oculus.
