What do you think the future direction will be for the Black Bay Collection with the Pelagos 39mm arriving on the scene?
And if you were to choose one model from the current line, which would it be?

  2. Calvin Chann

Change the handset and I dare say I would. But that’s pretty unlikely to happen.

  3. The spotlight is clearly on the Omega SMP 300 now.
Never has a watch needed dragging out of the past for a complete revamp as much as it does when compared to the P39.

  4. The next BB will surely be the 41/39/36/31 in steel with in house movement.
I feel this will be another hot watch.
I hope the Faux rivets have gone forever too.

  6. I do not see that the P39 is going to be particularly ‘availiable’ anytime soon. None of the other hot ones are yet

Tudor is getting away from fashion watches and going for top quality at a fair price tool watches that are made for men of adventure and to be used and enjoyed. Good on Tudor!

I'm thinking of selling my ETA BB (noir) for the Pelagos 39. I tried it on, and its just a totally different watch. BB41 is heavy, chunky. The Pelagos is so light, almost feels cheap. But I've alway been hung up on the square markers + snowflake. I put my name down, so will see when I get called…

Is The Tudor 39 Pelagos a Rolex Submariner Killer?

  10. For me they are what Rolex used to be- great quality, robust and decent value every day watches. Rolex has gone towards being a full luxury brand, even the OP doesn’t feel low key anymore.

I’m really considering the bb58 to complete my two watch collection (alongside my Reverso Duo) but also like the new Ranger and Pelagos 39. Will wait to see if they release a blue Pelagos 39 or update the clasp on the bb58 before I purchase… I think.

This may be out there.. but, wth? We're just talking, right?

I think perhaps what happens to Tudor and their BB58 line could be relatable to Seiko. Seiko has their professional Prospex line.. it's is generally more premium, with a premium pricetag, movement and finish, etc.. and has the.. well… "pro specs".

The Seiko 5 line holds onto maybe more classic Seiko traditions in the entry level front.

No, I don't think the BB58 will be semi-downgraded to a push/pull crown and 100m WR like the "5KX" is in relation to the retired SKX.

But, perhaps, like the "5KX"… Tudor keeps the more classic and traditional design, as well as, continuing their material experiments.. maybe have some fun with more colors and combinations. I think we'll get more eye candy from the BB58 line than the supposedly more refrained and took/purpose driven Pelagos line.

Going back to the future BB58, Maybe a next gen in-house movement? Add a date complication for those who really wanted one. And, like the "5 Sports" eventually did, there may finally be a new in-house GMT movement that will finally give the whiny masses (me included) a proper thin GMT within the BB58 line.

Idk? Those are just some things above the obvious of updating the bracelet and clasp to T-fit that I can imagine Tudor doing to revamp and refocus the spotlight right back to the BB58 line to compete with their Pelagos… Well, at least share the limelight and stage with it's "professional" brother.

Yes, I can see the BB58 models hitting the sales listings for potentially great deals. But, I will patiently wait for the right Pelagos 39.

I feel like before Tudor was perceived as a poor man's Rolex. Now they're like a vintage Rolex Brand, which I find kind of cool. Imagine an actual Bind sub, but with all the modern tech?

  13. Jeffrey De Jesus

I’ll say it again, cause it’s the truth. Tudor is “the smart man’s Rolex”!

  14. Erik L.

While technologically superior, the P39 leaves me cold. Why? The "paint blob" indices and "spray booth" hands don't do it for me. It's something I expect from a $300 watch, not one at $3k+. For me, applied indices and hands with proper polished or brushed surrounds are true hallmarks of careful intent and quality (whether automated or handmade), and the lack of attention to detail in this area is what makes me wave this off.

  15. Miles Civis

    The working man’s no-date sub.
Can’t knock it but -> I’d still just save my pennies for the real deal.

Tudor has never appealed to me but I get why it would to some.

Absolutely agree with you on how they will position the Black Bay line. I was just saying this to a friend the other day as well – expect to see the Black Bay like continue with heritage cues, while the Pelagos and others become their “modern” offerings. Great perspective and love your rendering. Bring back the rose and I’m in!

Tudor are still developing to attack the fashion rather than the function user. Please run a POLL to find out how many Tudor owners have been diving with them. Also I have not see nor heard you comment on my last post (previous video) about their chosen 'brand ambassador' ? Any thoughts ? Who would you wish to feel like when you strap your watch on ? An astronaut ? A Pan Am pilot, James Bond or David Beckham ? Answer please just for a bit of fun.

  18. Flippin Zippo

Black Bay is just the perfect everyday watch.. super cool, but not too precious

  19. Daltonier

I think that Tudor will need to lean into their METAS certification in order to further differentiate.
Additionally, I suspect that Tudor will continue to push upmarket and solidify its position across from Omega while Rolex continues to rocket off into this distance.

Its 1958 and Elizabeth is the Queen.. You have a 6538 because you were told its the greatest thing since slice bread and suddenly the 5512 is released. What do you do???? Fast forward to late August 2022 and you have a BB58, the greatest thing since, well… and the Pelagos 39 is released and Elizabeth is still the Queen. Has the world stood still for 64 years or are we simply just hamsters on the horological treadmill?

When even AC3 finds the Black Bay Heritage to be too big and slab-sided, you know there’s a problem with its sizing. 😂

  22. Bobby California

Big crown, higher dome a la pro and ranger, remove the gold from the bezel and go traditional white and remove the 15 minute hash markings a la sub 6205, T fit clasp (with riverts) boom a winner.

  23. UGA.D

I'm pretty sure NO ONE requested 21mm lugs. Ugh.

  24. Jani Hellberg

I hope they revive the northflag next in a bit smaller case.

  25. Mike Scott

Turned down a Pelagos 39. I have BB58 and 2 line Pelagos black 🙂 BB58 hasn’t been worn for months though. Omega and Ranger bumped it.

  26. Gary Boyle

Sorry but you lost me at Tudor. So many more interesting so called lesser brands doing a lot more for a lot less. Big big big pass for me. You're becoming to mainstream. Sorry.

  27. KeepingWatchUK

My view: The BB58 line will stick around a fair bit longer as is. I doubt a blue 39mm Pely will materialise any time soon either, as it overlaps with the FXD. I do think we’ll see an update of the 41 Heritage Black Bays divers next though. New bracelets & clasps for starters, with perhaps ceramic bezels. That’s my guess, but who knows!? 😀
