  1. In the end you sounded like an Apple fanboy. They only prioritize their profit margins instead of upgradability and right to repair. No company cares about customer or the environment, except maybe FrameWork and Fairphone.

  2. How did you find the Macbook Pro 14, I've heard from many that the battery is sub par, does that annoy you when you take it on a plane, out to a coffee shop etc? Its also really rather chunky and heavy

  3. BEst is 11th gen which I have and I have 11800H with 3060 RTX 1TB and 32GB with amazing mini led 165hz 16'' screen only £1000

Second Comment: Yes intel is not on "true" 7nm but samsung and tsmc arent on 5,4 or 3 either. So its in fact less confusing cuz intels 7 is comparable or even a little better than tsmcs 7nm process but of course not as good as its 4nm process. There are interesting articles you can find that explain this better in more detail.

Agreed – on all points. When I see a laptop cooled well enough to deliver full performance from its GPU, it's a sheer delight. And I'd much rather go for a thicker laptop with a solid build than a thinner one that could be so much faster with just a little more care. Laptop offerings unfortunately could be a lot better.

I watched nearly all of your videos and then ended up buying a self built destop PC 😀 (I still use my old laptop in the rare times i need to use it on the road)

  7. Bqube

I believe it is appropriate to make a comment saying:
    All fax no printer

  8. RedBeardedRabbit

    Agreed so much.

I'm personally waiting for the equivalent of a Framework version of the MBP16.

But will something like that ever exist? As the years pass, I lose more and more hope.

  9. Philip Mørch

I like that upgrading Lenovo laptops on their website is not that expensive. Getting a larger SSD or a Ryzen 7 is very reasonably priced.

  10. Weekend-Street

The touch bar gets trashed in this video too LOL…I don’t find it to be as terrible as mostly people do. The newer models come with an actual escape key.

Apple has made some spectacular blunders with their laptops over the years, a lot of it in the pursuit of being the thinnest and lightest, but I think they're back on track with all of their current M series offerings (both laptops and desktops).

    > manufacturers are putting more powerful processors than necessary

OMG YES THAT IS SO TRUE. I'm just literally trying to buy a thin and light that has a 6-core apu and 2x8gb ram as I already have a gaming PC at home but all the ones that are available either have shit screen, heavy or just with overpowered CPU

  13. Edgar Gabriel

    Thanks again, Josh.

Let's put it simple: buying a MAC sucks. Apple is sucking your money for upgrade shit.

Agree? Oh well, the others arent much different though. 🤷‍♂

Greetings and best wishes from Germany 👋

I've got an XMG as well and Xioami Book Air 13 (2022) Maybe you could share your opinion on this? It's my current prefered besides my 2020 Spectre

  14. NoFUTURE94

As someone who is trying to buy a new laptop, yes, it totally suck. Especially in the mid range (800-1000 euros).
Most of the time to sell you something they propose too powerful processors that will kill your battery life for nothing, or too pixel dense screens that will kill your battery life if you don't keep brightness close to zero.

A good balance to satisfy the user needs seems to be a mirage today; only Apple's Air M1 offer that, the choice depends on if you are willing to compromise for less hardware or if you are willing to compromise on basically everything else

Would you consider the MacBook Pro 14 inch with 10core m2 pro and 1tb of storage a better buy than with the 12 core m2 pro with 1tb for most people?

  16. ArthropodSpidey

After using Windows for years and dealing with GARBAGE Windows OEM quality control, I just got fed up and switched to Mac. Never, ever switching back to Windows.

  17. Wout VdV

Which one should I get between a M1 Pro 16” refurbished or the M2 Pro with student discount (it’s 650€ more expensive) ?

  18. Cringe Flex

Almost cracked my head trying to find a gaming laptop recently. I just need good and convinient machine for the nearest 3 years at least. Just tired of the marketing bullshit…

  19. Redmibook Pro 2022 laptops are also surprise hits. Can't wait to see what the 2023 versions would be like. They greatly improved on the 2022 version compared to 2021.

  20. Awww Cruts

Just saw windows was rolling out a feature for bluetooth iMessage so I’ve been looking at gaming laptops. My m1 pro 14 is amazing but to be able to game on the side a bit more would be great. I don’t want to get an i7 or i9 to get a better gpu. Why not give me an i5 so the gpu can use the cooling. AMD is an option but to be honest they put the high end ones of those in too small of a machine as well and no thunderbolt…

  21. amadnei

The annoying part, is that even high-end laptop (3k + ), buying a laptop on paper
spec alone is a lottery. keyboard, speaker , cooling, overall quality , screen might be very disappointing. It shouldn't be at that price point. Hell, that's without talking about reliability over the years.

  22. Cesar Brito

Do you recommend the MacBook Air m2 with 512 for computer science? Or any other Mac around that price point

  23. walter de rosa

Super useful. Thanks a lot. Well, I am using a MacBook Pro M1 Max 16 on daily basis but I would like to have a personal one. I totally agree with you regarding the 14 but I prefer a Windows laptop and so I have a question for you. What windows laptop should I consider (13/14) for content creation? There is Dell XPS 13Plus but I would like to consider other alternatives. Thanks

  24. Tony Tech

Thank you for being brave and calling out companies (manufacturers and retailers) with questionable marketing and sales strategies.

  25. Ayo Hughes

Excellent video – all very good points! We need more of this from Tech Tubers. Well done Josh! 👍🏽
I would add 3 HUGE issues: 1. Laptops aren't displayed in most brick and mortar high streets and shopping malls. Apart from a few multiples like Best Buy in the US and Curry's in the UK it's hard to find the laptops that you're interested in buying and give them a quick once over before you buy. Buying online can be very hit and miss for such an expensive purchase.
    2. The ownership experience is even worse than the buying experience. Even if you pay extra for premium support (from the manufacturer or retailer) you hardly ever get it. It's still hours on the phone, dealing with unhelpful call centres and it's very difficult to get issues fixed quickly.
    3. Laptop build quality is still extremely patchy (Dell especially) and there's simply no excuse in this day and age for that. It shouldn't be a lottery to get a decent trackpad, keyboard, hinges, screen without dead pixels etc etc. And don't get me started on software bugs. It's inexcusable to have to keep downloading driver fixes for basic stuff like audio or printer drivers or the wifi card. That stuff should work straight out of the box and faultlessly for many years. Most owners are forever fixing bugs and issues on their laptops. No other consumer products are so routinely troublesome.
Apple is the shining exception to much (not all) of the above. In fact, one of the main reasons I've switched to Apple phones, laptops and tablets etc is because they are much more reliable and if I need some support, I can book into the Genius Bar at a convenient Apple Store. I'd rather pay the Apple tax and get something for it than the £300 I paid for a 5 year premium on site warranty only to be told by Dell that 'it doesn't cover hardware'. 🤬

I bought my asus zephyrus g14 in august of 2021 for $1175 second hand. What a solid laptop this is (minus the paint chipping issue). I will probably keep this for at least 5-6 years at this rate.

  27. Umeshwer

iam so pissed of this year
all the manufacturers that used amd processor for the last 2 years changed to intel 13th gen
especially asus they changed to intel fully except for the g14
its like intel bribed the entire laptop market

  28. Medificazion

I came to like even if I don't watch it now. Love u Josh

  29. Yori OW

I've got one of those zenbooks with a ryzen 5000u prozessor and honestly, I couldn't ask for a better one. It runs the whole day, because of it's effiziency. You never really hear the fans and it still has plenty of power for everything from displaying a pdf to running demanding ide's like intellij. ryzen u is so underrated

  30. Mohamed

Hey josh, I really like your content. I was wondering why you don’t review laptops like the xps 15 & 17 ?

  31. Vikushu

I believe one thing you missed is selling old, non-clearance versions of a laptop as brand new. The average user who knows nothing about computers will buy it thinking they received a good deal. It should be clearer on the product page that you're buying an older product, perhaps by showing the release year.

  32. saturnotaku

I have to disagree with you about Eluktronics. I purchased four different laptops between them and Maingear (who sells the same Tongfang-based chassis) and each had a significant quality control issue that forced me to return them.

  33. Viraj Pereira

Previously laptops used to have a life of atleast 6 years, nowadays barely they last for 3 years. Just a profit making strategy.
