Why you NEED to turn off Microsoft Start in Windows 11

Microsoft’s Start in Windows 11 comes with a whole load of crap but could you get malware from it? Days ago I received an email about crapware, RestoreX360, bragging about being on msn.com and therefore the start menu. Block trackers and spying with DNS: https://controld.com/ (sponsor)

That is the widgets not the start menu

  2. @pauljoseph3081

Windows 11 wanting 4 Gigs of RAM is the ultimate sus that Windows users blindly accepts LMAO

  3. @meiskarma

Afrer installed the Windows 11, I just hide it the Windows Widget on the taskbar.

Thank you for the news and tips, Leo!

  4. @BobGeogeo

Navigation was too fast for me in the video. For me this worked: Windows key + W (widgets), gear for settings, scroll down to Show or hide feeds, then turn off My Feed.

  5. @StoneShards

My Windows 11 "start menu" doesn't have the options shown in the video. In the Windows settings search nothing returns for "Microsoft start"; "widgets" returns one result, for changing visibility on the task bar. WTF! I never get "suggestions" in my start menu.

  6. @KazrBrekker

This ad crap needs to end. If users pay for MS 365 or have paid for a license (most don't though they claim) then this ad crap needs to go

  7. Yes but even if you remove widgets ANNOYING ASS WIDGETS … it’s still in task manager running as a god damn program !!! ( oh lmao now you’re talking about that )

Update 24H2 was crafted by satan. May Christ guide us through the valley of the shadow of death.

  8. 3:37 Google ads also promoted a fake Firefox website, that like 10 years ago, I have downloaded and executed the installer. Only to have to then notice and proceed to do a full windows reinstall. It was very convincing.

You just denying yourself a gold mine what are comment sections on these sites, specially UK news ones. What type of rage and complete breakdowns goes on there can rival any tube/reddit drama channel community. 😂

Is controld actually the best dns or is it just because theyve sponsoted you?

Seriously though, you can modern linux on a piece of shit core 2 duo from 2007 with 2 GB of ram and browse the web just fine

  12. @paulw7404

Best way is disable Windows altogether – Ive been in the MSP/Tech game for over 30 years and have got tothe point that Im quitting due to all of the useful idiots that just accept this type of "Charge more, get less" practices from Microsoft.

  13. @GigawattGarage

I have witnessed on multiple occasions a user clicking on a link on the edge start screen, and it immediately go into one of those pop-up sides that says you've been infected to call the number on the screen.

  14. @lkzMini

Can i ask which web browser are you using as your main one? ^_^

  15. @AshnSilvercorp

how does granny have Wave Browser and One UI launch searchbar? Oh, she clicked on an article in the start menu, went to a site with a ton of ads, clicked yes on the "would you like notifications from this page" dialogue box, got an Edge delivery notification from a connected site of the site host saying "Your web experience may be slow, get this add on to make it better!" Goes to the Edge/Chrome add on page, adds a malicious extension that downloads the kit to install the programs, and then they bypass UAC to edit registry to persist even if they are uninstalled. And Windows Defender doesn't consider them malicious… Good job Windows.

Many years ago, one of my senior IT told me, one of the Apps called "Candy Crush" on a Staff PC registered virus links. It's not that we don't tell people don't play games on company PC, it's becos people don't care.

  17. @cambridgeport90

I'm not anti-Windows, nor am I anti-Microsoft. I still like some of the stuff they come up with, and I'm still a Windows Server user for my infrastructure. However, this tracking bullshit is out of control.

  18. @freak777power

Widgets are important so they can display lies about the war in Ukraine for example and tell us how Russians are fighting with shovels but truth is West and NATO are losing the war there. Mainstream narrative BS.

  19. Solution: use Explorer Patcher which removes Microsoft Start and replaces the widget (if you choose to use it) with a simple weather widget with no bloatware.

  20. @voidy.111

What hosts file do you suggest for everyday use? Last time I installed one, I had latency issues in online gaming

  21. @Capt-Intrepid

The Windows start menu is a festering pile of crap. Just get Start 11.

  22. @Tealc2323

I will never upgrade to the new bloatware, adware, spyware, and limited clustermess that Windows 11 is!

  23. @wally6193

And here I thought the whole point of win 11 was for better security over win 10?? MS is just full of bull sh!t, another corrupt corp.

  24. @nbrown5907

Hmm I have two pc's licensed with Windows 11 pro and neither gets those ads, why do you get them lol?

  25. @Taffy84

If you disable widgets with the task bar the process is still running so I found a script that completely removes it. Might have to do the same with Edge browser because that is always running in the background too.

  26. @LMiranic

    TL;DR

Turn off Microsoft Start from the Widgets if you feel like it, but unless you click on the links nothing will happen.

  27. @StaceyAyodele

Lucky enough for me, the Widgets function of Windows 11 was disabled when I upgraded from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro (weird.) I never used it anyway. Plus, I use RetroBar for my taskbar and Start11 for my start menu.

It's insane the idiocy Microsoft is pushing

  28. @xDaishi

Windows 11 is so terrible. Stay with 10. Microsoft pushing built in Edge traffic is appalling.

  29. @RaresCelTare

What do you mean? Do you intend to tell me microsoft doesn't have my best interest in mind when showing me those articles after I paid 299$ for my windows license? I don't believe you! They are the best company in the world and they would never endanger their customers with something such as articles not directly vetted by their employees so that no viruses get in my computer that is also protected by microsoft defender, the second best product in history, after microsoft windows of course. So no, I will not disable anything that Bill Gates himself chose for me to see or do when he knows what's best for all of us. He and his company have our best interest in mind and you can't convince me. Otherwise we wouldn't be trusting and using their amazing products.

I use W10 Enterprise IoT LTSC on my gaming PC. Other than that, I hope to never touch Windows ever again. It's either Mac or Linux.
