I got a 7800X3D and I chose it specifically for gaming and efficiency. Often surprised its using less than 65 Watts, while it's specified at 105 Watts. I use an air cooler

  2. @killerrf

Extra hundred watts… people complain about this “excess power usage” but this is like having two extra light bulbs on in your house which is nothing.

  3. @blackbirdpctech

Awesome as usual … how the hell do you guys find the time to do this much benchmarking? It’s super impressive.

  4. @kaapuuu

It seems 7800X3D is no brainer , only true intel fans can buy 14900k . Having gaming in mind , that is.

  5. @CampbellMC90

Was so happy I went AM5 with 7800x3d a couple weeks ago. Zero issues with it, extremely efficient, fans never even have to ramp up to cool it. Got it for $440 CAD and would recommend it to anyone building a new rig, or doing platform upgrade.

  6. @kaapuuu

120-130Watt difference is just crazy , calculate 2-3h gaming per day for 3 years . I don't know about you guys ,but in EU electricity prices are crazy.

  7. I'm a long-time Intel user and the 7800X3D is just a no-brainer for a general use and gaming focused build. If you happen to need more cores for some other work load, the 7950X3D exists and is still a lot more power efficient than the 14900K. Plus an AM5 motherboard will last you at-least another generation or two should you decide to upgrade your CPU to the next gen.

Intel needs to go back to the drawing board for their 15th gen in order to compete with AMD. I can't really think of a scenario where the 14900K makes sense. The extra 100W+ of power usage just in gaming will make a real difference in your energy bill, heat output, and fan noise.

  8. @Snoopmasta

The price difference alone kills the 14900K and the power efficiency of the 7800X3D is the nail in the coffin.

  9. 1% on average improvement in gaming at 4k. What is your margin of error? It's likely larger than 1%.

  10. @DJaquithFL

Sorry but got a call BS nonsense especially from the Call of Duty benchmarks. MW3 had a Resizable BAR bug that was swamping the AMD CPUs with horrifically bad 1% lows.

  11. @tomstech4390

"But the AMD needs and expensive motherboard!!""
I asked a bunch of i9 users how much they spent on their board and the average was ~£200, Meanwhile the 7800x3D will work on a £112 A620M gamingX without the VRM melting. For intel you need a more expensive motherboard and watercooling (ideally a custom loop, maybe a delid and liquid metal).

  12. @kyledukes9788

the advantage of LGA1700 platform is the barrier to entry is actually "budget" with an upgrade path in CPU's available to you. maybe the platform is "dead" but you can get into it for $100 and actually be able to drop in more powerful CPU's that is kind of what kept me away from Ryzen, the cost to entry into zen 5 was much higher

  13. @plushquasar653

14900k with 6000mhz ram is kind of a handicap. You should use 7200mhz.

  14. @Xcepter

I remember when shIntel fanboys were mocking AMD bulldozer was not able to catch intel I7 with double the cores…. Intel now has 3 times more cores and triple power draw and still can't match AMDs best 😀

  15. @brianhunter4860

Intel is down bad especially when amd is sitting on more 3d chips to be released

  16. @phero6933

I've had the 7800x3d since release and it's been amazing since. It can be just a set and forget as you said; it doesn't care about ram, needs less cooling, and sips power.

The only downside is that it isn't as good for productivity tasks, but even at that, it's good enough for most people.

  17. @jporter504

You can purchase a 7800X3D and a decent MB for the price of the 14900K. What's not to like about it?

  18. @residentCJ

All my Friends complaining about AM5 Bios Stability and Ram compatibility and Boot Speed and certain Problems like Pheripherals disconnectiong. No oc, Asus & msi boards.

I am the only one in my Friend Circle hwo use Intel and i have none of these problems. strix b660+12400f. 32ddr6000cl28. 4080.

Energy consumption is clearly benefit of amd but only if u need the fastest cpu.

I target 4k80 and not 4kmax, so 12400f is a third of the price of a 7800x3d. and consumes WAY less power.

every buck spent on gpu brings double the fps of bucks spent on cpu.

  19. @Nikioko

You don't see differences between the CPUs at 1440p and 2160p, because you are working at the GPU bottleneck. But the frame rates at 1080p show that the 7800X3D is the better gaming CPU. Once we have better graphic cards, we will see this at higher resolutions as well.
But when it comes to TDP, we see it now already.

  20. @MM-vs2et

Just the fact that AM5 will probably outlast whatever Intel's next platform will be for their actual 14th gen series, is enough of a reason to go AMD. I made that choice 3 years ago with the 3600, and has since upgraded to a 5600x with the same motherboard. And my next is probably a mid range 7000 series chip.

  21. @svarthofde2492

Now we know why Intel's marketing couldn't find a way to sell this product so they basically outsourced it to the guys from userbenchmark
