"Apple why are you lying?" Because no software is optimised for Apples chips yet. The GPUs are doing sometimes nothing in heavy work loads. It will change soon.
I think they meant per watt, not actual performance.
Either way they were dishonest and lying and did not need too.
And and Intel need to allow for user upgradeable ram and pcie gou storage in their GPUs to take away apples one benefit of Apple silicon unlimited ram up to the Mac max for the GPU and direct to SSD to GPU speed bypassing the cpu. the

Apples win are the dual media encoders renderers and graphics memory potential power draw noise size.
That can be taken advantage of best by video editing apps.
Not 3d they are about a 3060 power even in the the $5000 ultra studio version
If you actually play tomb raider you will have pause and glitches not seen in the benchmark.
Apple needs to allow for Amd Intel and Nvidia GPUs, whether they using multiple tb4 ports for more bandwidth or in the Mac pro an actual pcie slots.
A 3090 combined with apples encoder decoders large amount of vram in 64_128 GB versions would be so awesome.
But apple does not want any other people making GPU ram memory SSD CPU upgrade money from it's products they consider that money theirs alone and the consumer loses
Thanks for running the tests. I don't much care about the power consumption issue. I'm not running a mining operation. Apple always appeals to creatives but they really can't compete on the hardware side.
Rtx 3050 gpu faster Intel or AMD than m1 ultra 64 core beast when it comes to 3 d and GPU power, not using the media engine encoders decoders which are where apple power lay not in gpu grunt.
You just saved a lot of people into 3d thousands of dollars
A simple $1599 rtx 3050 build will outperform a $8000 Mac studio ultra 64 core beast build in 3 d.Thats just amazing.
And will give it a good fight with Intel quicksync in video editing in many areas and 12900k CPU will beat it in single and multicore in Cinebench which measures all the threeads in multicore.
Apple never said which test it beat rtx3090, so what's the problem lol. It was probably a Apple optimized software they beat rtx3090.

Geekbench compute can’t reliably measure the M1, the GPU doesn’t spin up fully. We‘ve known this for months, since the Anandtech review at least. Why would you even include it?

In specific tests the M1 ultra beats the RTX3090. However, in areas such as Blender which is optimized for ray tracing it cannot. However, the RTX3090 is akin of a truck hauling heavy goods and using massive amounts of energy. Just looking at the size, the fact that you have a GPU inching closer in performance pushes Nvidia engineers closer to rethinking their existing strategies. While normal people just look at benchmarks and biased ones at that, IT IS DIFFERENT for engineers who are at the forefront of development. Heck even Samsung or Qualcomm or even Intel do NOT gave a GPU this close tells you something is brewing. For NOW, YES Nvidia is king but tomorrow may change. DO NOT SIT on your laurels for long Nvidia!
Best to point out where M1 ultra is good and where it is not. Point out where RTX3090 is good and where it is not. Further, why in 2022, the Nvidia engineers DO NOT KNOW how to design an efficient chip. I guess these engineers think they can sit on their laurels abd competition will go away. Guess what Nvidia, unless you think outside of the box perhaps even Qualcomm will own you.
Main problem of Apple is unability to use external GPU. If Apple will be able to implement it in the future,can you imagine achieved scores Apple Studio Ultra can do with external RTX3090?:) .While on CPU side Apple CPU is just great.Main problem if Apple on hardware level can't use external GPUs.IMHO.
