Sony SHOCKS! New PS5 is not what you expect!

How’s it going everyone? As always, my name is Jimmy Champagne, and this is PS Ready, my Channel all about PlayStation. I’m currently at 191,000 subscribers. I’ve only got nine to go before 200k. If you’ve been watching this channel for a while or you’re new here, it would really help me out if you subscribed.

In today’s video, I’ve got three awesome topics for you. The first one is that your iPhone is about to become the portable PlayStation of your dreams. The second one is that your PC is basically a PS5 now. And finally, there’s an article making the rounds that suggests the PS5 has hit its limits, but I really don’t believe that, and we’re going to get into why.

Real quick before I jump into it all, I just wanted to say thanks for all the nice comments about me going over my physical pickups. I want to clarify something: I have a lot of physical games. I’ve been buying mostly physical games this generation. But once I moved into this house and Best Buy became like 30 minutes away, Amazon started delivering games late and all that. It became just easier to get digital games. So, it’s really just the past few PlayStation releases. So lately, I’m just fixing that because of the digital issues I’ve been having with my PS5 launch model. And also, I went on eBay and I picked up some older games that I’ve been really wanting to check out on PlayStation. So, I’ll continue that series. I really appreciate the comments on it. I’m glad you guys liked it. Let’s jump into this first news story, which again is that your iPhone basically just became the portable PlayStation of your dreams.

So, I know phone gaming isn’t really the coolest thing in the world. I personally don’t really like it all that much. The only time I really play on my phone at all is at the gym when I’m doing cardio. Specifically, my only cardio is I sit on the treadmill, I walk at an incline of 10, and I walk at a speed of three for like 30 minutes to an hour. And passing the time on Twitter or TikTok just doesn’t really feel very fun. So, I’d rather just play a few mobile games. And what I’ve been doing is playing games like Final Fantasy 7, the original, not Ever Crisis, which is like gotcha trash. I’ve been playing the original Final Fantasy 7. And while I’m sitting there at the gym, I get really into this game. And then I come home and I want to play it more, but I just don’t want to play it on my phone. The alternative I’ve set up at home, which I still don’t really love, is playing the game with a DualSense on my 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The game looks good on that screen, but it’s just like it’s not made to be presented as a true TV Style game or laptop Style game. Like, it’s built for a phone screen.

So, while I was sitting at the gym, I was like, “Damn, it would be awesome if I could get a RetroArch app on my phone.” Because RetroArch has Cloud saves and then I could come home, transfer the save to my Steam Deck, and play games on a dedicated gaming device. And right when I was thinking that, it’s like everything aligned, and we got to that future, which is awesome because Apple is now allowing emulators on the iPhone App Store. Everyone thought this was going to take a long time, but there’s already two emulators available and one of them is awesome. It’s called Delta emulator. It does everything from the Super Nintendo all the way down to like the DS and the Game Boy Advance. The Game Boy, the regular Nintendo, all those early Nintendo consoles and handhelds are covered by this app.

And of course, that got me wondering about PSP support or PS2 support or PS1 support. And we are officially one step closer to that because the developer of PPSSPP, the marquee PSP emulator on the internet, has said that by the end of the year they will have PPSSPP running on iOS devices. Now again, I’m not the biggest fan of playing on my phone, but I do have that PlayStation Backbone controller and when you plug that thing in, it’s really cool. It makes your phone feel like a sort of PSP or PS Vita. And then you get the PlayStation buttons like Square, Circle, Cross, and Triangle. You get the PS5 style D-pad. You get the white controller. And then the triggers feel a lot better than not having triggers at all because you’re using the touchscreen. But the biggest limitation was always mobile games because if you wanted to play anything that really took advantage of that controller like Diablo Immortal, for example, it’s like mobile gotcha trash where you have to like grind dungeons, it’s pay to win, it’s just not a good experience.

But with emulators like PPSSPP coming to iPhone, I can say it really fast now, that makes that controller actually worth the $100 pickup as an official PlayStation accessory. And honestly, there are so many games I’d love to play in that handheld format, especially when I’m just walking on the treadmill at the gym. Stuff like God of War, God of War 2, Silent Hill 2, Resident Evil Outbreak one and two, Resident Evil Code Veronica X. I mean, even Resident Evil 4. I know that they have the newest version of Resident Evil 4, the Remake, available for iPhone, but it runs like dog. So, like, I’d rather just play the original. And honestly, with this happening, if people go out and pick up a Backbone controller or some sort of like controller dock for their iPhone, I could definitely see Sony taking notice here and maybe start once again officially porting their games over to mobile stores. I say once again because there was this awesome phone they made back in the day called the Xperia Play that was like a slide-up PSP. It looked like the PSP Go but it also doubled as a phone and it had a touch little layout that had two virtual joysticks, a D-pad, the PlayStation face buttons, start select, everything you would need and even had triggers. And Sony actually started porting PS1 and PSP games over to Android. And if you had that phone, you could officially buy them.

So, they’ve done this before, but back in the day, no one was buying that phone. Everyone was buying flagships like the Galaxy whatever at the time or the iPhone whatever number they were on. So, they didn’t really feel the need to continue supporting it. But now with emulators, with these great controllers, with everyone having these insanely advanced, super capable, super chip phones in their pocket that can play these retro games, why wouldn’t Sony want to port them over and sell them for like 2 or $3 on the app store? It’s like a no-brainer because all they’d have to do is just make their own emulator or port the emulator they already use on the PlayStation 5 down to the iPhone and then they’re good to go.

And I know mobile games are not the best way to expand your market, but really it’s better than any alternative that I can think of. Like, when you look at what Xbox is doing, they’re doing it in the most haphazard way possible. Like, they want all their games on PC, their PC app is terrible, a lot of games that are officially Xbox owned like Fallout 76, if you want to play the Game Pass version of that game on PC, nine times out of 10 it just doesn’t even launch, all the achievements are broken in Fallout 4 on both Xbox and PC if you use the Xbox app which is ridiculous. And even when it comes to outsourcing their material like Halo, I mean, that show is god awful. You look at the interviews with the people working on it, they’re like proud of the fact that they never played a Halo game and that they made a separate timeline that totally messed everything up, it kills off major characters, and has Master Chief with his helmet off for pretty much the entire show. It’s like terrible.

Whereas Sony is making some really smart moves. They’re turning all their biggest IP into movies that they actually create. They’re working with Nintendo to do the same thing with the new Legend of Zelda movie. We’ll talk about their PC strategy which I think is infinitely better than Microsoft’s. And the next story. So yeah, I feel like another tet instead of making mobile games with Sony IP, which I don’t think anyone really wants, they could totally support the PlayStation brand by just taking older generation games and porting them down or emulating them themselves and selling them for two or three bucks like they already do on the PlayStation Store.

And that’s really the best way to do it if you ask me. I mean all these PSP games that I tell you guys to grab when they’re on PS+ like Resistance: Retribution and Pursuit Force and every other one like Killzone Liberation. There’s so many great examples. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. All of those games would lend saves transfer between your iPhone and the PlayStation 5 because as much as I love playing Final Fantasy 7 on my Steam Deck, the ultimate dream for me is playing it on my phone and then coming home and playing it on my big TV on my PlayStation 5. And that brings us to the second new story perfectly which is them heading in the right direction on that front with Ghost of Tsushima’s PC release.

So this one’s coming out really soon. I’m pretty sure it’s May 13th. They’ve detailed the PC specs today and you’ve got a 4090 PC with an I9 in it. That’s just an absolute beast. You can take advantage of like 4K using things like DLSS 3 or FSR 3. So as far as the port itself goes, I think we’re in for a really special treat from Sony here, which makes sense because this is one of their most high-profile games. But tucked away in the article that announced the specs is a new update to the way PlayStation games work on PC that’s absolutely phenomenal.

It’s what I’ve been asking for since they started porting games. Now when you log into your account, you’re going to be able to earn separate trophies for Ghost of Tsushima on PC. So whether or not you played it on PS4, PS5, or never touched it at all, you’re going to be able to earn the platinum trophy in this game which is incredibly simple platinum trophy to get. I didn’t get it on PS5. I will definitely be getting it when it comes out on PC. They’ve also gone ahead and made it so you can chat with your friends on the PlayStation overlay on PC. So if someone wants to ping you saying “Wow, they totally screwed that up”, if we want people to adopt our store in any way, we need to hit the ground running with a quality functional product. So for right now, all we’re going to include is this layout or overlay while we work on finishing up the PC app. That makes a lot of sense to me. And the last feature it includes is full crossplay with PS5. So if you want to play The Legends mode in Ghost of Tsushima and people you know are playing it on PS5, you can matchmake with PS5 players.

Highest quality entertainment system downstairs in their basement like I have it, they’re totally fine playing there. They’re not crazy like me and they don’t play most of their games on PS5 and the select few on PC. The one thing that’s kind of a bummer is that this doesn’t include cross-save. And I think I know why. So to get Cloud saves on the PlayStation 5, it’s actually a PS+ feature. So if you pay for PS+, all of your saves go to the cloud. And then when you get a new PS5 or you redownload the game, you’re going to have to pony up and pay for PS+. And then the alternative is it remains a paid feature on the PlayStation 5 and it’s a free feature on the PC.

We’ve seen how Xbox players are reacting to exclusive skins and items in Sea of Thieves on PS5, and spoilers it’s not great. And I think rightfully so in that case. Like it is kind of dumb for Xbox to make a game for PlayStation 5 and have PlayStation be able to get exclusive content within that Xbox Studios game. I totally understand why Xbox players are upset about that.

I love using that site for all my channels. The new article is basically built around a tweet thread from an AMD Insider named Kepler who has basically spelled out that we are no longer living in the era of the PS3 or the PS2 or even the N64 where as time went on and the developers learned how to use these different chips that were in these different consoles which were actually quite differ that in the PS4 generation it was very similar to the PS5 generation like it’s super easy to emulate PS4 games on the PS5 because it’s built on pretty much existing architecture that’s just been heavily upgraded and it was the same thing for the Xbox one back in the day they were very similar chips the Nintendo switch was a little bit different because Nvidia built their chip but you saw a lot of ports coming from PS3 and Xbox 360 era games over to that console so it’s obviously pretty similar emastered Edition it was like not that big of an upgrade the PS3 was able to have all of its untapped potential hit right at the end of the generation and then naughty dog did the same thing with the last of us part two which still to this day a PS4 game that ran great on PS4 and PS4 pro at a consistently locked 30 FPS at a really high resolution it still looks as good if not better than the vast majority of nextg games we’ve been getting for the past four years or so if the limit of the PS5 has s where we really see the technological limits of the console physically and digitally pushed by all of Sony’s big first-party developers like Naughty Dog Sucker Punch Ben Studio Insomniac everyone across the board and the coolest thing is the PS5 has had really good advanced games from the very start even though there were some cross-genen games games like Ratchet and Clank Rift apart and returnal really push the limits in terms of what you could do with the nextg game so I feel like in this ba at most people who have ever played on PC probably feel pretty similar once again if you haven’t subscribed Please Subscribe and set your notifications

Your iPhone is a PS5 / Your PS5 is an iPhone

We’ve been keeping our finger on the pulse of the emulation situation on the iPhone ever since it was announced that Apple was allowing emulators into their inner sanctum. So far the news has mainly been Nintendo-focused, with Apple showing that they’re as ruthless as Ninty when it comes to pulling apps that don’t meet their terms and conditions.

Now, there’s some good news for Sony fans, as the creator of PPSSPP Henrik Rydgard has written in his latest blog post that as long as Apple allows ’emulators with ISO/ROM pickers, [then] PPSSPP will come to the App Store later this year’.

Well, I’ve been doing some digging to get to the bottom of this, and I discovered via Android Authority that Apple has recently spoken to MacRumors about this very topic. (I know that sounds like playground ‘he said, she said’, but stick with me). Apple has clarified that emulators on their app store can run ROMs so long as they’re from retro games.

So, considering Apple has said that emulators can play ROMs, things are looking good for Henrik Rydgard bringing my go-to PSP emulator to the iPhone, and the ‘retro caveat’ gets Apple out of the immediate line of fire for emulating consoles that still have games being produced for them.

Your PS5 is a PC / Your PC is a PS5

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is the first PlayStation title on PC that uses a new PlayStation overlay, which includes your Friends list, Trophies, Settings, and your Profile. This feature is available on Windows PCs and will be accessible from the in-game menu or, for keyboard players, by pressing the “SHIFT +F1” shortcut on your keyboard.

While playing the game, you can earn PlayStation Trophies just like on PlayStation consoles. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on PC shares the same Trophy set as the game on PlayStation 5 consoles*. In addition, the PC version also has full support for Achievements on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

To make use of features like Trophies, Friends list, and cross-play, you can sign in with your existing account for PlayStation Network or create a new account. The use of PlayStation overlay is optional for both the single player experience and Legends mode.

When bringing a game over from PlayStation consoles to PC, the team at Nixxes always strives to give a great experience to as many players as possible. In Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on PC, you’ll find a range of graphics presets aimed at making the game run well on older hardware, as well as making it shine on high-end PCs.** Below you’ll find the details on recommended hardware for various presets that are available in the game.

PS5 Pro is Necessary – No Untapped Potential on PS5

It’s funny seeing so many “why are Sony releasing the PS5 Pro? Devs haven’t even fully utilized the PS5” comments. This isn’t the 90s/2000s anymore, consoles aren’t esoteric hardware like the N64 or PS3. There is no “hidden untapped potential” on the PS5.

Over the last few decades all hardware vendors have converged to very similar designs. There is barely any difference in a CPU from Intel vs AMD vs Apple or a GPU from NVIDIA vs AMD vs Intel these days. Any optimization for one vendor applies to all others.

Not to mention that all the tools used by devs (e.g compilers) have improved massively over the years and can extract most of potential performance with ease. Nobody does “to the metal” optimization these days because it’s a) too hard b) largely unnecessary.

  3. @vincentdean7630

No thanks Apple. Who have the worst devices to game on EVER.. All those sleasy micro transaction trash apps…

  4. @shanechurch2044

Hey bro a source at Sony leaked that they are putting themes on the ps5 Pro. Not a rumor!!!!

  5. @JJPurp

Apple is way late. Been doing this since forever. đŸ˜€đŸ˜‚

  6. @tommilliken7740

Mobile platforms such as Android and IOS just need to make a seperate app or work with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo that will allow you to pay a monthly fee yo play any games you want or buy the game via digital download, once the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is released it's to be the first mobile processor to top 4Ghz speeds which really will be an improvement (Qualcomm stole Apple engineers to improve their processors) and is said to be the first to overtake Apple and their Bionic series chips not only in multicore scores in which the SD 8 Gen 3 has done but also in singlecore scores and it's to be more efficient as well, I'm kinda disappointed in not finding this out until after I purchased a Nubia Red Magic Pro 9 but if history shows Nubia should be able to put the SD 8 Gen 4 into a great gaming processor, this NRMP9 is still pretty sweet I just feel like I should've waited another year to get an overall upgrade with Qualcomm's slow increases with their processors, we've pretty much been stuck in neutral for a few years now

  7. Have you tried the resident evil ports of resident evil 4 and village on iPhone yet

  8. The is is a PlayStation portal already and the deck is the best PlayStation portal actually with chiaki

  9. @Karl_Kampfwagen

Worst. Cardio. Ever…. Unless you're playing Dante's Inferno, because that's a given heart workout.

  10. @MountKash1

đŸ€ŁđŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł Android users are listening to this video like "đŸ˜ČđŸ˜§đŸ„ŽđŸ˜ł… iOS/ Apple users haven't been able to do any of this ALL THIS TIME ????" "WHAAAT ?!"

Apple/ iOS is always years late with literally everything. Android phones have been able to di all of this for many many years. And has tons of emulators. Able to emulate from JAVA – PS2, PSP & even Switch.

  11. @JDR_ZA

I subscribed to your channel because it consistently delivered excellent PlayStation news without any biased content. However, recently, there has been a noticeable trend of consistently criticizing Xbox on this channel, causing me to reconsider my opinion.

What I appreciate about Xbox Ready is its unapologetic criticism of Xbox, often without reservation. If your channel truly prioritized PlayStation content (without biased perspectives), you would similarly be able to openly critique poor decisions made by Sony.

  12. @Durka-Durka01

I don't know anyone who plays games on their phones. đŸ€·

  13. @T-Rich1228

Hey I heard Sony is remaking Spiderman remastered already . I’m kidding but for a second some of you weren’t sure

  14. @FaigelAsra

Crazy ass hell if you think mobile gaming is the same as before especially with an iPad & a controller

  15. @scoobysnacks986

There's no more first party exclusives. Just get a PC that runs well… đŸ€Šâ€â™‚ïž

  19. @k00LGuY671

If your console is already 4k and it max out 30fps, it already reached its limit lol

  20. I really didn't give Ever Crisis much of a chance yet. Is it really that bad?😂

  21. Thank you for the person who asked what shape on meant, and thanks for answering. I've always wanted to know what you meant by that but never thought to ask.

  22. @jeffgrit

I thought "shape on" was pertaining to the shapes on the PlayStation controllers…

  23. @shimoorek

I honestly thought “ shape on phrase“came from the fact that there are shapes on the controller for PlayStation. I guess it has multi use for that phrase. Shape on my friend!

  24. You don't need a 4080 for ultra, a 3060ti/ 5 5600 will play anything out now ultra at a decent frame rate

  25. @darren990

lets see you nail your digital games to the wall then lol–meaning as a display peace on your wall

  26. The problem with comparing a console to PC is that any statement implying that something looks or runs better on PC is seriously misleading. A game is not going to run better on PC unless you have a significantly more powerful PC than a PlayStation 5. A 4090? Yes of course. But you would have to be in, what I still believe is the minority of people who own PCS, with at least a 2070 to keep up with the PS5. and if you don't have the IO throughput of the PS5, you're going to have to have more than 16 GB of RAM on your PC to try to keep up with the PS5. in other words, any old average PC is not going to be better than a console typically.

an average PC being more powerful than a console probably will never happen until 10 years after that console launched If it happens at all.

  27. @KamekazeKuban

What’s the cross button?? You mean the X button? They’re all shapes. Also a cross is more vertical and has a longer “tail”. Just saying 😜 Regardless love your content bro, keep up the good work!!

  28. @ToxMod

My Iphone could never replace my PS Portal, the best feature of the PS5 isn’t inside the PS5, its inside your sense controller.

  29. @marksapollo

Delta is great, it runs very smooth on my iPhone, looking forward to PPPSP.

  30. @samokumelj9067

hi where did you get the jacket where can i buy it let me know thank you
