This is not every reason for a slow computer.

To comment on driver updater and installer programs I whole heartedly agree and steered well clear for a decade due to incorrect analysis and the fact they caused more BSOD's than anything else in the past but things can change. I do note that you did in fact include a driver program recommendation in a very recent video Brian. That said and in my case unfortunately, even after a clean install of Win 10 on a fairly recent 2015 Alienware 17R2 which isn't exactly ancient in this year 2020, Windows now fails to find all drivers and a couple prove quite problematic to locate… hence the last 2 clean installs I have done I have in fact used Driver Booster 7 which very quickly solved the issue and also assisted in getting a compatible driver on the system for a Roland VT-3 which otherwise would not install … long story short I now (sort of) trust using Driver Booster 7 at least for initial setup but for sure, I quickly remove the program itself using Revo free version after it's served it's purpose – that's my 2 bobs worth anyhow

    Windows gets so bloated.

I had a netbook powered by a duo core atom processor that I used through college in 2010….and it was not a new model netbook. Cost me $229 at Staples.

Anyhow, initially it was great. Over a few years, and various Windows updates, it was running slower, laggier, and very choppy at times with nearly all the ram being used after logging in but before even running anything. I blamed myself even though I didn't really install anything on it.

It got so bad that I went through the manufacturer's process to reset it to factory defaults, which included the version of windows that was several years old at the time.

Job finishes, I log in and it works like a champ. Zippy, not laggy, everything working much better so I am dumb enough to figure I might as well let Windows get the updates.

After the updates….ran like garbage again. So goddamn bloated! Took the same machine and ran it as a chromebook for awhile with Neverware's chromium and it ran better. Played around with various linux distros and the light weight ones ran pretty good.

WIndows, well I do have to blame other tools as well as you can easily get many apps with little bits running in the background in order to make startup quicker. Adobe, you are famous for this.

I have a Win7 pc that I use for certain tasks that has a ton of software that I don't want to install on my Win10 pc.
I used CCleaner before every shut down (in other words everyday) and I run my browser in Sandboxie.

The Win7 OS is about 5 yrs old and it starts up/shuts down faster than my brand new Win10 pc.

but there is more programs that start at startup doesn't included in task manager

  6. SHR80

look at all of this BS we have to go through just to get the machine running normally and it's not even all of it. thank god I've ditched this OS.

Steam, off on startup, spotify also off on startup. Problem solved.

For the past 5 years at least mechanical storage has been the main issue. Ssd will slow if you install random junk constantly, but it takes alot longer.
The bottleneck caused by a 5400 or even 7200 rpm HDD on a core i3 system even, will run slower than an old core 2 duo with the same drive. Of course stuff in ram is faster but the extreme bottleneck currently causes negates the effect of ram speed as it can't get info to ram fast enough to matter and puts incredible strain on an already not fast enough HDD causing it to fail sooner.
Manufacturers releasing devices with mechanical as the main storage at this point should be considered an unacceptable practice. They only do it to save a few bucks and have a perception of value rather than real value.
There is absolutely no reason to have a core i3, ryzen 3 or better pc without SSD as the main drive for windows or Mac OS.
Having done hundreds of ssd upgrades even Pentium Gold machines see a performance benefit. The benefits start to trail off at that point.

  9. If you are still using a mechanical drive, defragging is important, with about 15 percent free space.

    Good video Brian. Cheers.

    BTW, nice wallpaper.

Buy an SSD & replace all adobe software you can, they will kill your system performance

  12. Wolfgare 1960

Funny, he tell you to remove some program to replace it by other, so you have the same problem at the end or worser.

I'm working on a older HP computer with only games on it. It has a 930 gig mechanical hard drive with 120 gig used.

I'm now running disk defragmenter and it's 45% fragmented. This should speed speed things up a little bit.

  15. Ken G

That is a nice spec PC you have from what I could see from your task manager. What type of GPU do you use?

  16. Any chance you can give me a heads up why you doing images from arround Bosnia

  17. bazstar69ar

Do you consider advanced system care pro a help or a hindrance?

  18. Eagle Ales

ya, because of cookies, also advertisement also malware in PC, so many ways other stuff come and make PC slow, so keep used timely antivirus and clean PC. anyway nice video, thanks, Brian.

I pay $60 per year for the full ZA, and have done for the last 20+ years. It seems to work; I've never had any problems in that time. McNaffee is a chocolate teapot – I had it on the works laptop and it was always missing stuff that even Notrun picked up. My Bro in law has Sophos on his works machines, and has never had a problem.

Another thing that has your system slowdown over time are the feature updates that Microsoft does twice a year. The initial install of Windows 10 was around 1 GigByte, the first feature update was 3 GigByte to add all the functionality to Windows 10. The adding of features will over time will slow down your system.

  21. MaxPlays91

    Thanks for the useful advice
I know these all but I always check if u have something I didn't knew before
I was curious about the cleaners and optimization apps overall and you covered that thankfully 👌👌
What do you think about wise memory optimizer from wise 365 company and same with wisecare 365
    Is bleachbit alone is enough

  22. Tino

bleachbit freezes my pc wll its busy cleaning up everything and then have to turn my pc off and back on again please help ???

  23. John Piper

Uninstalling all the antivirus crap seemed to help overall performance and boot times, I'll stick to windows defender.

  24. John Fletcher

The worst buildup of dirt in a PC I ever came across was so bad that when I opened the case I could not see eny evidence that there was a computer inside.
